As a master brawler and someone with novice in each of the 4 fighting skills, at least for the time being, I've used every weapon available to melees in the game. I've found that any weapon without at least an light armor rating is simply worthless because any mob with an armor rating makes your hits feel like a fly swatter on an elephants ass.
Now swordsman certs have the highest armor ratings at medium, although LVAs might be medium I forget now, I know the VL is light.
Also do mob attacks use armor rating modifiers? So would having a heavy armor rating armor protect better than light vs mob attacks, or are mobs simply on a flat damage scale?
I'm starting to think the whole armor rating trumps everything in terms of "best" which really puts the fencer skill at a disadvantage because their best weapon is the light armor piercing vibro blade. Which is kind of weak compared to a medium piercing powerhammer or katana or even a light piercing electrical damage LV.
anyway food for thought.

From what i have heard armor ratings work like this: For every rating above the armor rating of the creature you are fighting the damage is multiplied by 1.25. So if we had a weapon that had heavy armor piercing then is yourr fighting a creature with no armor...the result would be the damage *1.25*1.25*1.25. I am a pikeman and with Polearm hit 2 i have hit tuskens for 5k...this would end up doing around 10k damage...I think this is a little much but maybe it is needed to balance the heavy weapon damage from commandos and BH's

my pole arm hit 2 does alot less after the KD patch. I use to hit for 1000+ , assuming it hit at all, now its more in the 500-600s avg. Occasionalyl get a 1000 point hit, but much rarer. The hit miss totals seem about the same.

There are no player made melee weapons with a armor piercing rating higher than medium. There are several ranged/heavy weapons though. Maybe there will be some loot drop or quest weapons one of these days with a heavy rating, but who knows?

And it rocks. I bought one from a master weaponsmith for working my way up that branch of the brawler tree, the lame novice axe wasn't cutting it anymore.
Using twohandmeleehit1, or whatever it's called, I was hitting things for over 1k damage. Not according to the combat window, but dmg numbers over mobs' heads. I'd see "You hit a durni for 576 points of damage." and then a big "-1023" over the bunny's head. AP/AR and resistance modifiers to damage don't show up in the combat spam(which is kinda lame) but do show up over the mob's head.
