Thread: All brawler professions not just unarmed need kata's.
Ok I'm not into martial arts (meaning I don't practice) but I have recently learned what kata's are and my first thought was "wouldn't it be cool if all brawlers got kata's".
Help me out here if you actually are heavy into the martial arts but for the uninformed the "kata" is basically a series of moves preformed in a ritualistic manner. In layman's terms you know when you see a martial artist on TV just doing a bunch of moves. . . well that could in a sense be considered a kata. Yeah I've been watching a bunch of discovery channel lately so sue me.
Couldn't all brawler professions get some sort of kata. Heck don't just use it for looks (they do look good) but give them some sort of benefit. Like meditation for TKA's or something. Give it a temp buff to something like COB or something like that.
Something I just thought of is if you perform the kata while watching an entertainer your BF heals at an accelerated rate. Because of all the BF we get don't you think that would be cool? Or perhaps it can heal your BF at a very very very slow rate or something.
Just a few thoughts.

Hi, it's a good point, Kata's are basically patterns of moves used for practice, the theory being that if you have done the same block/punch combo a thousand times you get a type of "muscle memory" meaning that if you get into a fight you will do the moves without thinking and will do them pretty hard as your body has become accustomed to doing them. In SWG this could translate maybe that you could buff yourself as Tera's Kasi's can with power boost, or at least get an accuracy bonus maybe? all martial arts have forms of kata so this could be the same for all melee professions. It is an interesting idea...

For exmaple if you come in with a punch aimed at my head I would have a number of options open to be, i could punch block, block, dodge or pull the attack. Each of those options then opens up a number of following attacks and defence moves. For example Punch block then follow that within a second with a punch to your solar plexis, as the opponent drops he would then be open to a knee to the face, elbow to the back of the rib cage or a arm/hand lock.
Katas form the basis for martial arts, In Goju-ryu when it was first performed students where only allowed to learn kata Sanchin (the first Kata) and would have to perform this kata at full body tension a number of times a day for ten years before there master would teach them anything else.
The topic of this thread is indeed correct all martial arts perform types of kata from unarmed, sword to bayonet.
If anything there should be a number of different unarmed and weapons styles open to us, for each style has it strengths and weakness, it would be neat if they added maybe enoughter elite profession after tka master, fencer master etc etc
