As a novice brawler what weapons are u using to get the first box in 2h sword and pikes? I can use the non-cert weapons but it seems like u should start with a cert for those two exp lines.

Am I missing something?

You have to use the general-purpose certified weapons. For 2handed it's the Heavy Axe, for pikes it's wooden staff. These and either survival knife or stone knife are simple enough that everyone is certified, even if they don't have brawler.

There's a list of which weapon certifications you have at the bottom left of the skill tree window (ctrl-s).

Though you can use a 2h curved sword to get the first box as well. You dont get the cert until tier 2, but 2h curved sword has amazing speed for a 2h weapon (2.5 vs 8-11 for the axes) and it has great plus to hit modifiers (as opposed to the minus at all ranges on the axe). So while you dont have a cert and that hurts your damage, you are hitting alot more often.

Now, the secret tofighting at low levelsis use berserk. You will only do about 20 damage per hit because you are uncertified, but berserk will raise it to about 100-140. Now you will be hitting 10x more often than the axe users and still doing at least half their damage.

I got to tier four 2h sword in about 2 hours of gameplay doing this...started on low level mobs and when I got the 2h curved cert started hunting war grondas (wouldnt suggest this without good kinetic composite and a decent AR1 creature).
