Thread: How do I level
Center of Being helped alot. Thank you for the tip.
I have also noticed the strange things with creature levels, sometimes I can walk through them and sometimes a lower level one will spank me hard. All I can offer is to keep trying, that is what I am doing.
Last night I was doing destroy missions on Tatooine. I'm CL 5 so I choosed mission with difficulty of 4.
When I got to the lair (mynocks), I noticed that the mynocks where CL 2 (green). I engaged one in combat and noticed that it wasn't such push over as I had thought it would be. Actually all the mynocks were lot harder than the CL let me to believe ... I would say that those mynocks where somewhere close to CL 4.
After I destroyed the lair I returned to city and got next mission ... mynocks again with difficulty of 4. Once again the mynocks conned CL 2 (green) ... but where lot harder than CL 2 would let one to believe.
On my 3rd mission to destroy mynock lair (difficulty 4 again)... mynocks conned CL 4 (blue). These mynocks where just as hard as the mynocks had been at the two lairs I had destroyed earlier.
I wonder if there was some kind of bug with how those mynocks conned.
Levelling now is easier than it was before the combat upgrade. The key is to forget about doing things solo - the game is designed now to revolve around grouping.
Group Benefits:
1) Defense Bonus - You get the defense bonus of the highest player (a level 10 player will appear as a level 80 if there is a level 80 player in the group)
2) Full XP in 1 hit - All you have to do is hit the target once, and you get the full xp for the kill. This is based on your combat level. Higher levels get more xp.
3) Full Mission Payout - All members get the full payout of the mission - it is no longer split evenly.
4) Social Interaction - OMG! You can get XP and have fun meeting and talking to other players. This is an MMORPG - have fun with the community.
5) Free training - more often than not, somebody in the group will have what you need when you level. Far less running and spending cash at the NPC.
Look at benefit #2 - there is the key. All you have to do is smack the target once and you have your xp. Hunting in a group with a Combat medic is most effective because they can use a DoT attack to pull a single creature out of a mob. Having a good tank that can take the agro is highly beneficial as well. Hunting only non-aggressive creatures is HIGHLY recommended - pickets onDantooine give incredible xp. A single picket lair will yield around 200k xp for a level 80 player (400k during Double XP week). The most effective strategy is to have one person pull out a single creature (again Combat Medics are best for this), and everybody focus on that one target. Kill the target, wash, rinse, repeat.
For low level players, here is a simple macro to put on your toolbar:
/meleestrike;(or whatever your favorite default attack is - knockdown attacks are best)
/pause .5;
/target self;
/pause .5;
/peace;
This will smack the creature using your default attack, and then peace out of combat. The creature will forget about you and attack players that continue to press the attack. As you level and your defenses go up you can play a more active role. Many feel that ranged players got all the love in the combat upgrade, but thats not the case. With a good template, melee players are invaluable to a group. My template allows me to hold multiple agros while the the ranged players stand back and pick them off. This makes completing a mission very smooth by systematically tanking and killing the creatures one by one until they are all gone.
If you do not have a attack set up as default (it will have the little check mark on it) then you will peace automatically after one hit, no need for a macro. And I am not sure why you have the target self in there, if you are pulling out of combat that eludes me.

lol, still adjusting to CU myself i guess. The target self was needed to stop attacking while running a looping attack macro lol. Anywho, the concept remains the same. just stop attacking the bloody thing if its gonna get you killed - the first hit is all that counts.
