Thread: Advice wanted regarding Fencer / Pikeman advantages.

Hello.
I'm relatively new to the game - i've been here less than a month.
I chose 1-handed melee as my main combat profession as i thought it would be a good all-round choice and that there should be a fair choice of different weapons.
I've been fighting 1-handed for about three weeks now, and have recently become a Novice Fencer. I have almost qualified for my first novice fencer skill, so that's where i am at present.
Over the time i've been playing i've fought alongside most of the professtions, and i have to say that i'm becoming a bit disillusioned with fencing. My main two gripes are:
1) No choice of weapons! Even most master fencers still use the curved sword, one of the most basic weapons. The legendary Baton costs 20 million! I mean, 20 million? That's practically the GNP of a whole planet!
2) Comparitively boring moves. Fighting alongside a pikeman of the same level as me, i look like an amateur! I may be as effective, but i don't look nearly as accomplished a fighter.
Now, what i am wondering is whether, although i have spent a long time training in 1 handed weapons, if it is worth me switching to pole arms? I don't really want to spend a few weeks getting back to the same level as i am now, but i also don't want to spend even longer perfecting fencing if it's never going to be as much fun.
Will i suddenly get much better moves when i get some of the advanced Novice Fencer skills? Or will i be *stab* *slash* *slash* *slash* *stab* *dizzy* *stab* *slash* *slash* *slash* *stab* forever?
Any informed advice is appreciated.

I am Master Brawler, Master Fencer, Master Pikeman, TKA 4/0/0/3 and Novice medic, and I love that combo. Plus with pikeman you can take on acklay and trade a extra bone to the weaponsmith to have them make you a nice acklay baton. 
anyways Fencer has such nice defenses, I would keep them to compliment your pikeman, and I enjoy being able to play both.

I play both too, and I have to say I love the animations equally for both. I think they are both fun to play. Pikeman is way better in PvE, but if you ever plan on PvPing, you will want to use fencer. (unless you have a mind fire lance). Like Mapai said, if you want to do pikes, at least keep master fencer for the defenses.....also make sure to get master brawler.
Also, most master fencers use 2 weapons.......1) a gaffi stick, and 2) stun baton..............occationally they may use other weapons, but these are the standards.
If you want variety of weapons, then pikeman isn't for you....they only use long vibro axe and the vibro lance.........heck all the melee's lack in weapon variety for that matter.

TKA's get screwed the most we only get 1 weapon and thats at novice TKA and until then we do about max 200 with a special
fencing is fun your main weapon the stun baton is stun dmg wich nearly everything is vulnerable to just keep trying in this and im sure you will enjoy it

OK thanks for the advice.
I will do as you say and try to master both. I definitely want to be able to master creature handling and be OK at medicine too, though. Will i be able to master 3 things and half master another?
Also, you mention that i should get a Stun Baton. Well yes i would love one, but i am told that they cost about 20 million. Is this right?

No, you can get standard stun batons for 20k on my server, and around 1-5 mill for acklay batons. You can kill the acklay yourself (or in a group that will share loot) and have your own made for cheap from most rep weaponsmiths. Or give them 2 bones for 1 baton, so they can sell the other one.
