I am going to be going Ranger/(random melee profession).

I will be playing unbuffed/(unarmored or lightly armored). So if you don't mind please don't tell me to do otherwise, kind of pointless. But I am wondering which class will be best for doing that PVE. I was thinking maybe Tersa Kasi or Fencer. I like fencer a lot but can it hold up? What is going to mess with my HAM (as far as specials go) the least.

Firstly, you're attempting quite a feat. Ranger is a great pair with a ranged profession, not so much with melee - but let's put that aside as you seem quite decided you want to keep Ranger there.

Ill judge the professions by their HAM consumption:

Sword: Good (Bad when speedcapped)
TKA: Average
Fencer: Good
Pike: Very Bad. Extremely bad when speedcapped.

Thing is - Fencer's damage output in PvE is poor compared to Sword, and even to TKA. But to some degree, they will all mess with your HAM - just be very careful with your specials and weapons.

Playing unbuffed and unarmoured means you won't be able to take 70% of enemies in this game. Although I did TKA from scratch to complete with no buffs, no armour, try taking half the things off the beginner planets and you'll die. Badly. Very Badly.

At one time you will play armoured and buffed. Trust me, I had the same plan - turned out to go Doctor myself.

Thank you, that advice helped greatly...I probably will end up going fencer. But I am pretty sure I will continue unbuffed and unarmored. I have played since the release. However I have never tried melee much (other than Swordsman), nor have I tried Ranger (which is why I wanted to do it). It really isn't that hard to play unbuffed...if you think about what you are doing. Although having a pet, even if a non-CH pet, is pretty crucial. Basically all you have to do is not get closer than 5m after having your pet aggro whatever you are fighting. If it moves on you, hopefully CoB will be up and you can lower posture and have your pet get its attention back. It isn't hard you just have to pay attention. I am also not of the belief that I should be able to neccisarrily beat everything in the game, so that isn't a problem. But thanks you answered my question well. With every character I have had I play unbuffed unarmored (unless pvp). It isn't bad once you get a strategy down.

TKA HAM costs aren't too bad if you're not using VKs. Also, as far as fencer specials go, they will kill you fast if you spam your specials. The only exception to that is if you use a vibroblade since it has very low ham cost. Swordsman HAM costs can be manageable, but overall can hurt you bad. Pikeman cost, like the above poster said, will absolutely destroy you. I'd say that if you are willing to suppliment yourself with some good food/drink that the HAM costs for fencer and TKA would be very manageable, especially if you carefully choose your weapon by what secondaries you're strong in. (ie choose a gaffi stick if you have really high str)

ok this is how I look at the melle profs.

Swordsmen = Damage Dealers

Fencer = Defensive

TK = Best Balance between Swordsmen and Fencer

Pikemen = DOT weapons

If I was doing what you want to do. I'd go TK for anumber of reasons. TK is only afew percents below fencor in defensive, and a good damage producer. Forget about Swordsmen unless your fighting style is to put out alot of damnage fast and hope your HAM holds out long enough for your target to drop. Pikemen.. Don't bother, not for what you want from a melee profession.

I would consider TKA, as you can powerboost for a temp buff, and not having medic, being able to cure diease and poison and healing wounds is a big benifit. (thinking some of the harvests you will be getting is from creatures that diease and poison)

Intrepid- Mapai FS Bounty Hunter
Intrepid- Catio Swordsman/Doctor
Eclipse- Mapai Master Smuggler/Pistoleer/TKA
Eclipse- Eihou Master Swordsman/Fencer/Brawler
Intrepid- Ataut Dark Jedi Knight
Loot Vendor 453, -4812 Tal Valor, Naboo

Unbuffed, you will probably want TKA or at least try to work in the meditation tree to heal wounds and poisons/disease.

I would say TKA for light PvE.

I do not get how people want to play without buffs, life gets so much easier with em. but if you absolutely do not want to use any buffs, then i guess teras kasi is the best one , since you can heal wounds, poisons, diseases and bleeds by meditation.
