either heavy swordsman or teras kasi.

teras kasi is extremely well balanced, and has a wide variety of abilities, such as combat equalibrium, meditate, etc.

heavy swordsman, mind damage, heavy damage (power hammers, scythes), not quite as defensive as tk or fencer. honestly, a buffed, armored heavy swordsman rips through just about anything in pve, and well, with the mind pool as importiant as it is these days, it is also viable in pvp.

overall, swordsman seems to be the least broken/overerpowered of all the Melee proffesions. TKA can be rather good in everthing, but falters against ultra high-end Mobs.

always go with the most fun, think of your favoriate fighting style

if your into ninjas and whatnot (or are jedi obesssed) then try teras kasi

if you like knives and blades and stuff try fencer

if you like owning pve and very un borked swordsman

if you like taking down groups of mobs or giving your attackers cancer or herpes...pikeman

like jedis? play kotor

If you don't plan on going after a lot of really high end mobs then TKA is probably the most balanced and would be a the best choice. TKA's are good at everything and not great at anything. Every other melee prof has something they are great at, but equally, something they are bad at.

If you do want to go against high end PvE, then swordsman or Pikeman would be the best choice. (yes I said pikeman....In PvE they're not as bad as they're perceived to be)

If all your interested in is general pve take TK. Meditate to remove diseases and poisons is almost a must for any extended pve, nothing cuts that hunt short faster then that mantrigue mind disease. Add in the ability to heal wounds (whens the last time you saw a medic in the med center actually willing to heal wounds?), and meditate is almost enough all by itself to sell TK.

However if you want to do certain high end mobs (NS elders for instance with their 100% kinetic res), or if you want to pvp at all, I would suggest swordsman. The best pvp'ers are all running around with 90% kinetic resistance, you could have them knocked down and be wailing at em on the ground and you still wouldn't be damaging them as a TK.

Ok, here is my deal, and alot of people wont agree with this anyway, but its what im doing so please rather then tell me not to do it, just work with me.

On anotehr server ive already done ranged profs to death, and i want to try a melee prof.

But im also going to be a master chef. So in my spend i can only have one combat class mastered, and the min pre reqs required to get it. So no master brawlert, no fencer with some dabbled TKA, only one list. So i can do master swordsman, master pikeman, master fencer or master TKA, only one alone.

Now, i mainly want to PVE, but eventually i think i might enter the GCW, and i do have a big mouth and i tend to get in duel alot.

So that in mind, what is the best stand alone class. I hear various opinions from various people, and it seems to narrow down to TKM and fencer, simply because pikeman and swordsman dont have enough defence alone, even though they do get medium AP.

But Honostly, i dont know, so id really appreciate anything anyone would say before i keep grinding out unarmed.

I heard TKM is awesome cause of the mass amounts of status unarmed 3 throws down, but i hear TKMs have trouble doing dmg in PvP, and in pve alot of things have high or 100% resistance to kinetic.

So, simply , stand alone with pvp and PVE in mind, what is the best melee combat class to get.

Thanks for your time everyone.

Thanks for the help everyone.

To be honest, im very surprised that people are saying swordsman and not fencer, or pikeman. I know fencer may run into the same problem of not having decent different damage types, but stun is usually a vulnerability on most things, and yes may put you in a rut in pvp sometimes, but thier defenses and status effect defenses are amazing, where swordsman have almost none.

I do understand the importance of medium AP with two different damage types (blast and kinetic) and also the importance of hitting heavey, and hitting the mind pool, but with practically no defense agaisnt status, and little to no ranged and melee defenses how they can get by in pvp (and now with pve using specials in pve), and also without having a dizzy attack, or a KD. So chances are youll be on your butt in pvp, or they will run away before you kill them. I dont even think swordsman can through down many status can they? i just thought these things were integral to pvp, and sometimes pve if thier humans. And swordsman are not only horribly slow, but on top of low defense, they have very low accuracy, and being the only combat class you have to use ever, its viable to have stand alone?

A pikeman is the master of status, and knockdown and posture change, they can do light ap electric, and medium with kinetic, sometimes energy if your special, and get all those dot weapons, and thier defense is middle of the road, whats wrong with them?

TKA is one im also surprised with, meditate is very nice, but ive never played a class with it, and i have gotten by, granted i usually do ranged classes so its easier to not catch poisons and dots...but meditate isnt ever an imiediate help, their status changes are awesome with hit3, but their ability to resist them is terrible, and they only do one type of damage, and that being so makes pvp tough and high end PVE (which i want to do) almost impossible. I dont want my friends to all say LETS GO ON A NIGHT SISTER HUNT, and then i cant go.

And fencer, well at least they can do two types of damage, even if their only AP is kinetic. But having stun damage is pretty nifty , especially in pve because alot of things are vulnerable too it. and their defenses speak for themselves, but they have no KD (but they can dizzy and lunge). i guess possibly the real problem for them i guess is that they dont do alot of damage which makes things tough. Even pistoleers can get a special 650+ light ap weapon.

so yeah, i guess ill just wait for some people to comment, thanks for your help everyone.
