Thread: Some Brawler specialization suggestions

After a few months' break I decided to join up with SWG again and try a Trandoshan this time around. To stay in character, I thought brawler would be good to start this char out, and I quickly grew fond of the One Handed skill tree.

I am nearing One Handed IV, and I have begun thinking about specializing further. Fencer will be sure for me, because I like the idea and the optics of the fighting.

At first I thought about adding Creature Handler. It would go well with the Trandoshan hunter theme, and it might give me additional attack opportunities, for I don't like armor much, and for RP reasons I don't buff (except the occasional chef buff).

Reading up further about the melee professions I had a closer look at Two Handed/Swordsman, also looking pretty good. However, since I am playing this char not for levelling madly and becoming "Über", I am not sure if I wouldn't over time neglect one style for the other (i.e. Fencer or Swordsman). Nevertheless, to go with the hunting theme, I would think about adding Rifleman to the mix, so I could attack targets at long range, and when they come closer, I could finish them in melee.

I see many suggest master brawler for the additional stats and esp. Intimidate, but I think it may cost me skill points where I may use them better (i.e. Medic).

Any suggestions on the mix would be most welcome. As said, this is not supposed to be an Über-char who takes out Krayts and Rancors single handedly but rather an RP character who can hold his ground in PvE and is able to do NPC missions, and maybe theme parks once he gets strong enough. Main question, I guess, is:

- Does Fencer/CH make much sense?
- Do people with Fencer/Swordsman use both skills?
- Rifle/melee specialization sounds sensible, no?

Thanks for your input!

well seeing the way you want to play, I'd say that you should do exactly what seems fun for you, do you think CH seems cool, do it, or do you breather go with rifleman, don't let anything stop you...

You might consider the classic defense stacker template, Pistoleer/Fencer. The +dodge modifiers stack, and Pistoleer DOES have some weapons that are best at long range. It's another option, anyway

Deus Mortus: Oh, I will. However, I want to stand a chance against some of the above medium mobs.

Interesting you bring up pistoleer, Kryxal, because at one point I was considering a Fencer/Smuggler combo, sort of an old fashioned pirate character.

There is no place in this game for hunting unbuffed unless you like to stand on the spot and do the default attack rather than using specials.

Would you mind elaborating on that? Am I doing something wrong by hunting as a newbie? I'm hunting outside of Moenia, just walking up to random mobs, using berserk or stun til they're dead, then continuing to the next mob. And as far as I know, buffing requires $$.

Oh, I beg to differ. Fencer's HAM costs are very reasonable and, unlike pikeman, I know I can minispam a special if I need to without dying. I can take down a mountain dew on my own at 1 handed IV with my little 170 max dmg curved sword. I don't use comp arrmour since I'd have to lower my HAM to 600 or below to get in it, so I use some 60% ubese i've cobbled together from various places, and I've never played buffed apart from the odd minibuff freebee from aspiring doctors in the med centers.

If stupidity got us into this mess then why can't it get us out of it?

I don't need to hate people on the basis of race, color, creed, religion, nationality, or any of those other things. 30 seconds of conversation usually does the trick.

I have a friend that is Master Fencer/Master Rifleman/Master Brawler and does well in pve and pvp. Swordsman would be better in pve, but like you said your not going to for uber. CH is not very usefull atm, but hopefully after the CB that will change.
