Why is Master Swordsman considered the king of PVE? Is it because of the AP2 weapons or the blast damage? Are they like riflemen in that once they hit master they are doing more damage and have negated the speed penalty?

Personally, I don't think Swordsman is the King of P v E. I think Pikeman do alot more damage in P v E. Most people think swordsman is good becuase of its AP weapons and mind attack, but if you look closely a pikeman can do more damage than swrodsman.
Depend on what kind enemy youfighting in p v e, Swordsman has slightly better than pikeman against creatures. Dizzy Kd doesn't work against animal creatures, so it is all about how much damage and how fast can you do damage. If you are fighting human like enemies like NightSisters, Tuskens and SingSinging Mountain Clan, pikeman can kill them easily with their dizzy kd moves.
With looted Vibro Axes, Pikeman's weapons havealot more damage than swordsman's weapons. My friends looted 3 Vibro Axes that have over 500 damage and only speed of 3 - 4. With pikeman's looted weapons, it is hardly believe that pikeman can't do good in p v p.
In p v e, high level enemies can't be knock down. High level enemies usually has high protection against Knetic, so it is important to has other kind of damage type. It is tough for professions that has no AP weapons to kill high level enemy. Depend on what you wanna kill, it is wise has as many damage types of weapons as possible.
Here is a list of what kind of damage types:
Pikeman - Electricity, Knetic, Energy (rare weapons)
Swordsman - Blast, Knetic
Fencer - Stun, Knetic
TKA - Knetic, Heat (After Publish 8.2)

Action is the largest pool on any mob so i fail to see how pikemen are good at all. Granted they do alot of damage. But they do it slowly and they miss all the time. Swordsmen hit mind (by far the smallest pool on any mob) and hit it faster and more accurately than pikeman can hit. Since im fencer as well as swordsman, i have a kd/dizzy so i have no problem against the npcs you say pike is so good for.

Fencers get Vibro Blades which are AP1.
