I think a good way to balance this is to make all melee the anti-mount class.
Here's the melee vs mounted marksman setup:
1.5x more damage ON TOP of melee vs ranged damage increase when they are on a mount
all melee should be given an ability to force a dismount if in range (should work like lunge, except at higher ranges).
accuracy on a mountshould be reduced dramatically
you cannot fire a gun while sitting on a mount if it is running. only walking.
one more thing: trappers should be able to place anti-mount traps to dismount people and have them take damage on their fall. This gives more usefulness to scouts/trappers and would be a good combination with melee.

Also for unmounted marksmen threaten shot could work very well against lower lvl mounts. Also I think only CHs/mobs should be able to have their mounts attack. A good example would be the witches on rancors. Of course we might have our first jedi by the time mounts come out so that jedi could throw his/her saber at rider and kill it.
meele fighters need a special sprint ability/item and the ability to knock a player of the mount.
and it is requiered that it is not possible to get on a mount while attacked.
I definitely support the idea of a "rider knockdown" move. Or if nothing else, just make the regular KD moves have a dismount effect on someone. Make it harder to succeed against a mounted rider, first of all. It's going to be tough to get in close enough to knock a guy off a dewback.
But when it does work, the guy should be on the ground, prone, and stunned from the fall. Then you can finish them off. The price of attacking a TKA from a mount should be severe if the TKA gets the upper hand ![]()
Id been thinking of mounted combat in general, and I think it would be simplest to have 2 general effects:
1: high miss chance, increasing with speed
2: any hit has a chance to dismount; any successful state change dismounts.
For ranged fighters, this would basically be a long duel while both are missing, then the first dismounted has higher to-hit and dismounts the other (but suffers from the dismount) and then regular unmounted ranged fight.
Melee as said should the the heavy hitters. massive damage if they dismount you. plus they have the added advantage of being able to take advantage of whatever neagative effects a forced dismount has (knockdown, stunned, etc).
It would be really neat if mounted melee could "grapple" his opponent's mount, gaining the ability to bind the two together, steering both.
Good ideas there, but I don't like that grappling hook idea.
Any artificial means of increasing a melee's capabilities by adding RANGE is a cheap and easy way out. This means grappling hooks, ninja stars, hadoukens what have you. It's just as bad as devs giving all melee greater range to compensate for lag that they created in the first place. A sword is not a short range pistol, it is a sword.
