Fair enough, I'll look forward to trying it out on TC.

Is this being scheduled way in advance, or is something starting with the balance soon? I was under the impression that nothing would be touched for months, well after JtL was realeased.

Sorry. Most of the technology we have is deployed. The sandbox server will only be able to handle about 100-150 people. Also keep in mind that to get on to the sandbox, it requires another fulldownload of the game and an additional patcher too.

We will be talking about it though and once everything is tweaked, it will go to Test Center and TC2 for everyone to get involved with

TH how do you plan on filling the spots on this server. Seeing how it will be critical to the future of combat and PvP is there anyway to have servers hand select people from the server who know what combat should feel like and can give you good feedback, I know this will cause some problems with people. But for something like this I would prefer Grade A people testing this server I would not want every joe "I wana be somebody" to test this. People from test center do a great job hammering out bugs with full publishes.

But I would love to see Real PvP'ers and templioters test this combat system out. Most of you hate templioters but you have to understand that these people play the game and always find a way to be the best at what ever the system has to offer. Believe me you would rather have these people working for you, then for you to find out what loopholestheyfound on live servers. Just a suggestion for the combat sandbox to help the devolopers out the most. Rather then just have 500 random people sign up and only get a few quality ideas and suggestions.

Either way I would think these type of people would help create a great combat feel. Even for me the casual gamer.

I concur, look TH I would love the opportunity but I'm the first to say I don't have time. So I won't waste yours, as far as I am concerned this should be application based. I really want to see a SOLID combat system come out of this, the people who test dictate the quality of publish. (no offense to the TC people I am not talking about you, you guys do a great job.)

TH or any correspondent that knows, is there an age limit on the CB testing? I personally would love to help, but I was curious about ages.

Georb79 is right, you should at least put the most recent versions of it on test center 2, just so everyone can check it out and give feedback. Even if you play around on that sandbox and tc2 is a day or two off. It will be more usefull than 100 people.

Frankly, I think you need both types of players, both uber templaters, and decent amount of run of the mill types: The templaters to break the system, and everyone else to b*tch about it. You need involvement of the type of players who are not willing to exploit every flaw in the system, but are still interested in engaging and balanced combat... else you'll just have templaters thinking the game plays fine. Most templaters by rule do, because they aren't subject to the whipping everyone else receives, and the game remains "balanced" between the templaters themselves.

Just take a gander at the most vocal Combat Medics. They'll argue all sorts of ways before admitting that CM's were ever imbalanced, despite the fact that it's blatantly obvious to most folks that aren't of the profession. Same goes for the defense stackers, buffers, 90% composite makers and wearers, and so forth. You certainly can't expect those who are often the worst offenders to police themselves and give valid feedback on how the game feels and plays to everyone else. Andthese folksaren't usually as interested in balance as they are in finding the most blatantly superior mixture of professions and abilities-- when the whole excercise of revamping and balancing combat is to ensure there isn't one.

In short, you need a collection of varying play styles and temperments on the server, with an emphasis on templaters and those who refuse to template, but still are combat-savvy and have a clue.Tuning combataccording to how it plays outamongstthis mixture is vital, because this exact mixture drives combat on live.

Stop while you are ahead dude. What happens if you guys have to postpone the combat balance again? Don't say you won't cause I have already seen it happen a few times. DON'T get anyone's hopes up until the "sandbox" is live and being tested and you know the next step in the plan, putting the code on TCand TC2,is going to happen. You have already seen the damage that can be done by saying things like this and players taking it as gospel.

I think I would be a great help considering I PvP and PvE with my Swordman / Smuggler. I also believe that in doing this I can state my concerns and interested for the whole and not for myself. I know that I can be on the server when ever needed and for how long I am wanted

I would love to get in on this. I have mastered all combat professions except pistoleer and BH. Have really enjoyed all of the Melee elites and periodically switch between them for a change of pace. Enjoy PVP and PVE but do to the current system have not really been focused on PVp in quite some time.

Hello there,

I've not been around the Brawler Forums much, so I hope that does not hinder my chances.

I've been around this game since about August 2003 (I didn't register for the forums til much later). My first character, Wolfwood, was a Smuggler, back from the days when Artisan 4040 was part of the Smuggler Prerequisites. His Christmas Holo said Fencer, so I've played with that as well.

I've since moved onto a new character, Rohqjahra the Wookiee. Went into that character thinking "Hey Bowcasters are cool!" - Ended up wielding Cleavers and Power Hammers. He's on his way to Master Swordsman/BH/Mixed.

I am a casual player in that I'm not a Power Grinder and I never did Holo Grind (except out of Christmas Holo Curiosity). Any experience I've ever gained as a SWG player has been un-macro'd ATK. I play mostly PVE unbuffed, and try to group as often as possible. I'm an excellent Tank, and use the Taunt ability liberally in what groups I can find. Because I play unbuffed, I feel I have a good grasp on what works and what does not work in the current Combat System. I have PVP'd before, but only as part of Base Defense on older, now defunct characters.

I have not mastered Brawler on any of my characters (though I've been Brawler 4444), as I felt there was no need, but I have played most all branches of the Brawler Profession, barring the Pikeman Profession. That said, I do still feel that I have a great, if unique, understanding of the Brawler Profession, and the current Combat System as a whole.

I've spent ALOT of time trying to figure out balances for this game, and how to tie them into this games Insufficient Point Model of Character Development, buffing systems, healing systems, GCW, Economy, Bounty Hunting, etc. I've thought a great deal about this game and what I'd like to see it become, while retaining what is good and works in the system today. I even have tons of notes and scraps of paper of feasible and some not-so-feasible mechanic tweaks and changes, as well as full blown new features that would work wonders for the game.

There is quite honestly nothing I would love more than to work on this game in the way this Sandbox offers. I would gladly volunteer 110% of my playtime to this sandbox server if I were to be accepted. I have no guilds to tie me down, and any structures can easily be redeeded for the time it takes for this sandbox. This is what I go to school for (Game Design Development) and what I want to do with my life, and I'd love to have a hand in shaping this game. The only reason I'm not on TC is because I only have a dial up connection at the moment, but plan on getting a broadband connection within the next month or two.

Oh, and as cool as Jedi sounds, it's certainly something that can fall by the wayside if I were to be part of this undertaking.

Hey, here are the reasons I think I should be chosen

  1. I am an experienced tester for multiple MMO's and other game types.

  2. I have been playing SWG since mid Beta 3.

  3. I have been a Master Brawler for many MANY months (8+) and currently still am.

  4. I have at one time or another played every Elite Melee Profession long hours.

  5. I am dead sexy.

  6. I am a wookiee.

  7. I can be on any hour of any day. (That's kinda sad but I have no obligations to meet.)

  8. Did I mention I am sexy?

  9. With the numbers on TC for Pub 10 I doubt I ever get around to the FS grind let alone the Jedi grind.

  10. I do both PvE and PvP and can fit in either nook/cranny.

34 professions (not counting GCW, etc), 5+correspondant for each = over 200 people. Hope it can handle more than 150. =)
