Thread: Brawlers Need More! DEV's please read for brawler ideas!

Let's be honest, Brawlers are not very good. That goes for elite professions as well in my opinion. Brawlers are not as good as ranged people, and that isn't fair. Also, I feel too much revolves around the marksman tree. Combat medic, Bounty Hunter, and many more professions come from marksman andnothing comes off of Master Brawler.

Despite these flaws, I continue to play as a brawler because I feel it is more fun than ranged combat. Still, there is a lot of room for improvement in the brawler tree. As well as more hybrid professions from the brawler tree and others.

Take for example a problem I had as a Swordsman. I am about half way up the tree and I've missed a lot. In some cases I would miss the same attack 6 times in a row! Also, not just in Swordsman, I take heavy damage and am sometimes killed because my attacks wear me out. There are ways to take less damage with armor, but no armor is really suited for brawlers except for RIS, and I've never seen more than pictures of that armor.

Another problem I have with brawler is the attacks. Most of the attacks are okay but things like warcry and intimidate are almost useless. Being a master brawler, I have the next level versions of intimidate, warcry, berserk, and the lunges. The lunges I do find useful because they knock youropponent down. Berserk is okay except it lasts a little too long which prevents you from mounting your bike. As for attacking commands, most are good and some are just not needed. For instance, if you look closely at the swordsman skill tree, you'll notice that there are two attacks that do the EXACT same thing.

I have a few ideas for new professions and many people may have mentioned these so I apologize if I mention something someone else has. The biggest one I would like to see is an Assassin. Who says all Bounty Hunters use droids and guns? This profession would work some what like BH. First off to get there you would need Master Scout and Master Brawler, much like BH. Once reached, you will be able to train as an Assassin. A BH that kills his prey with melee weapons. The tree would also be similar as BH with an investigation tree which uses nature and tracks(much like a ranger) tohuntdown their prey instead of using droids. Assassin would do this by advanced training in The two-handed sword, a tree with traps that can affect NPC's as well as PC's. And to top it off, a tree for dual wieldng swords. A short sword in the left and a long in the right. I feel this profession would dogood with the proper attacks and if the investigation tree is done correctly.

I have also thought of just a dual wielding sword tree. This would come off of one and two handed combat.

In conclusion,I hope the DEV's can agree the brawler profession needs some work. Thank you for reading this and I hope some of these ideas will have some affect on what you decide for the future of the brawler tree. Oh and I'd like to know what you are doing about all of these Jedi...?

I can't believe you called intimidate and warcry useless. Also, RIS is not the only armor suitable for brawlers; ubese works EXTREMELY well.

hmm... I don't agree with you. I find the Brawler profession very powerful. A master brawler vs a master marksman is way more powerful, lunge 2 + warcry 2 is a good example.

And TKM, Master Fencer, Master Swordsman are very powerful too. Okay Pikeman misses too much but not that bad. Try to defeat something in PvP / PvE being a Master Pistoleer and you'll see what "weak" means.

About the new profession you are talking about... I'm not sure... maybe it'll be agood profession.. but I think that it's good as it is. Master Brawler is a nice addition to an elite profession and should remain an addition IMO.

Brawlers not very good?

TKA, Swordsman and Fencer are all EXCELLENT professions in their own right. Pikeman needs to be reworked but I really cant see how you think they arent very good?

Warcry and intimidate useless?!?

Its just a matter of knowing what they do and when is best to use them.

Heres something you can try:

/lunge2; /warcry2;

You can do it the other way around 2 and that works as well, but do that and you've got your opponent on the floor for 20 seconds with them not being able to do a thing.

Intimidate on the other hand cuts the damage the enemy does to your by 1/2 and thats extremly useful to stay alive, and especially for tanking.

As for armours, if your PvE'ing then Ubese for kinetic is great (70%ish) and its my choice again and again but a set of composite is always good if you can take the ham costs to wear it. Those are ur staple armours what ever your profession is and its exactly the same for brawlers.

I have to disagree with ur comments Dark.....I started my character as a range person and then I chose to change my profession to melee

What I have noticed

Unarmed tree was a pain to move up...didn't really enjoy it much...but I went all the way to unarmed 4

Polearm tree was actully fun..I enjoyed using the polearm and watching all the special moves that flow very well with each other....I'm excited to move into Pikeman...even though its a broken proffesion...but I'm hopefull thursday's patch will helps us out

2 hand tree......don't know what weapon you were using but I was hardly missing and hitting for a ton...I climbed through this tree quickly

one hand tree......my god this is fast....even though we are not hitting hard we are hitting fast...i'm not at one hand 4 yet but I can't wait to finish this last box off

So overall Brawler is balanced we get /lunge 2 and /warcry 2 and even though I have not master yet...almost there...just need to finish one hand 4.....it is a must for any elite proffesion...I enjoyed doing a range for a while but I must say melee is way better then range....just to also note.....I've been soloing at dantooine with no problems at all..doing all these skill trees...but in a way...I am kind of cheating being a CH also...having the pet being my meat shield..so flame me if u want for cheating but it is all tactics..if not I'm happy to be joining the fellow peeps in the brawler profession...........

I dont know what Dark-Adept is talking about but brawler moves are the best ones. Lunge 2 is awesome because it can knock down from 20 meters. Intimidate makes the person/creature always miss, or you could use warcry and they just wont attack. Now whats wrong with that? marksmen.. they get overcharge shot. Now they can tear up their expensive weapon. I think master brawler would waste a master marksmen any day.

I think brawler is exactly where it needs to be: it supports & strengthens elite melee professions!

As it stands right now, it does this by giving us warcry/Int/Lunges. I hope when they get to the combat revamp they seriously consider adding more bonuses to elite melee professions at master brawler so players can focus their characters on becoming stonger all melee templates as opposed to just having an elite melee and pairing it with another skill. I also hope that some form of "stacking" still exists so brawlers can gain advantages from picking up alot of melee related skillboxes. To me the brawler "vision" should be a kind of "weaponsmaster" that is proficient in a wide variety of weapon tactics/styles.

I would like to see aGladiator class. It would require Master Brawler. Thegladiator would be the ultimate melee warrior, receiving melee hit and damage bonuses, improved warcry and intimidation modes, and status effects. Also a few gladiator specific weaponswould be cool or maybe a two-weapon wielding tree. A neat addition might be to require Entertainer XP, and allow people to heal mind damage by watching a gladiator fight. Arenas with gladiatorial contests could be a violent alternative to going to a cantina to heal mind wounds.

if they did this, dancers and musicians would be out of business .

but yeah, i'd love to see an elite or hybrid profession if you mastered brawler. currently, the reason to master brawler is to get warcry2, intimidate2, and some extra speed. as it is, the only reason to master marksman is to get commando or bounty hunter.

i think someone said assassin for an elite profession for mastering brawler. i say heck yeah. i don't know what specials you'd get, or what specific weapons, but you should get something for being a master with most melee weapons.

oh yeah, forgot to add. to the original poster, warcry2 and intimidate2 are your best friends as a melee tank. and in duels and pvp, they will save your hide more often than not. being hit with warcry or panicshot is harsh, as you can't do anything for 10 seconds. being hit with warcry2 and not doing anything for 20 seconds is almost a sure death. and intimidate2 lasts longer than intimidate1. so your attacks will be 50% less 100% longer. not worthless by any means.

Ok, FIrst I can say I understand your pain. Second I can say I dont agree with it.

I just made master brawler again yesterday. I have hd it and surrendered it twice. However, after playing some of the othe combat professions, I found Brawler to be quite powerful. I believe most people just go for Unarmed category then complain on the grind to TK. Master Brawler Rocks, great modifiers and real good specials. With a long VIbro axe I sometimes hit for 1000 pts of damage on most things and the Dizzy - KD combo on onehanded weapons tree at Master brawler is deffinately a lifesaver. As for armor, UBESE! I have a full set of 58% resist Ubese with 20% Energy and I kick butt most of the time in PVE, In PVP it is tactics. Dizzy-KD combo and then beat the crap out of them.

If there was a gladiator class i'd say I'd have to go with M Brawler and M Entertainer as requirements. But all the brawler abilities have their place. A brawler is the kinda person who walks up to a huge, decimating creature, spits in it's eye, and then procedes to beat it into a pulp. A marksman has to run away while firing. I think we can safely say that we haven't been underpowered. That and most MOBs seem to prefer attacking us, since for the most part, if it doesnt kill us first it's got no chance at taking out any our friends plinking away at it.

I'd like to see Taunt actually be able to pull a creature, at least at Master Level. If Riflemen can have an ability to pull one creature at a time I dont see why Master Brawlers couldnt do the same thing...
