Thread: I'd like to share a story

I have a little story I'd like to share.

My older brother is starting up the game. He's having trouble getting xp. He can't get a group on Dantooine because he's such a low level.

So I'm starting a level 80 group in the MO telling the others that he's tagging along, when I start getting shot at. I get knocked down. I use recovery, then use Improved Force Run, and dash out of the MO. I was shortly thereafter picked up by a friendly Jedi that just so happened to see the whole thing, and then we drove to his house, and he let me hideout inside for a while.

So I tip my "buddy" 30k credits to hold the group together while I'm gone so that my brother can level and have fun. Now keep in mind, this is like 15% of my bank account so that he can do something nice that shouldn't even take money so that my older brother can have fun with the game.

I sit in the house for a while longer, then I go out to fight with the now successful group. Everything is going great. My buddy wants to duel me. So I say "okay at the next mission, let me regen my force."
He says he's gotten stronger, he thinks he can beat me again like he did before, I say no, I have new skills and new tactics, etc. (I was talking about Improved Force Suppression, Improved Saber Throw, repeat.)

Just a friendly duel. He points out that he would have killed me by now if he had my mission when I told him I wasn't sure if I wanted to duel. We drive to the next mission. I tell the group members to hold on, and that I'll be quick. I give one of them a quick heal before I go into battle.

Shortly after I start getting shot at. I have no idea what's going on. I try to put my mouse over him but all I see is the trade icon. Dueling glitch I think. Try typing /endduel. Doesn't work. By now, my health is already half way down. I try my best to heal and force run away, but he incaps me a couple times, then dbs me.

"Thanks for the 92k. Kaumyd's taking a little nap guys."

At this point I am absolutely fuming. I tell the group to disband and reform, because unfortunately, this guy is the leader of the group. The group ends up desintegrating.

"I told you I could beat you."
"That has nothing to do with skill, you CHEATED."
"I was playing mind games."
"Mind games?! NOW MY BROTHER ISN'T GETTING XP AND NEITHER ARE THE OTHER PEOPLE IN THE GROUP. I PAYED YOU TO HOLD THE GROUP TOGETHER, NOT DESTROY IT. I PAYED YOU A CHUNK OF MY BANK ACCOUNT TO HOLD IT TOGETHER SO THAT MY BROTHER COULD GET XP."
"I did hold it together. But it was time to end it."

.........

*The following is aimed at the BHs like my "buddy" here. K? Got it? THE BHs LIKE THIS GUY. Not all of them. Just want to make that clear. Just in case I forgot to mention, THE FOLLOWING IS AIMED AT THE DISHONORABLE BHs LIKE THE ONE DESCRIBED ABOVE*

K, maybe I should clear something up space cadets. Open your f*ckin' eyes. You ARE NOT the only people in this game. Like I've said many, many times before, there is a line between RPing, and using the fact that you're a BH as an excuse to be a total @$$hat, k? Being a BH DOES NOT give you the right to detract from other people's gaming experiences for YOUR enjoyment, especially beyond the realm of the hunting of Jedi.

Let me clear something else up. Mind games? That's not mind games. That's being an @$$. Your "mind games" are your excuse to be the very lowest of the low in this game and pretend like you can get away with it.

Now honestly, who is in the wrong here? Here I am, paying my friend, who lied to me, to keep a group together when I am getting no benefit from it so that my brother can get xp and have fun with the game, and I get shot for trusting my friend. Can you honestly say that you guys are proud of yourselves for being associated with stories like this? Can you honestly say that you think that your profession is filled with more honorable people than ours?

i agree 100% with your post that dude was lame .... i try to get a feeling for people in the game .. learn to spot people like that (jerks)before i get too attached to them .. and when i find out someone is like that i just ignore them and have fun and play the game with the people i get along with and who are my friends...

im not sure if i understand your post 100% though .. it sounds as if he used an old exploit where if you dueled a jedi when you had his bounty ..the jediwouldnt be able totarget you? something like that ... which i read about on these forums ...either way if thats what he did do id warn him he could be reported for that to discourage him from using that tactic on others... and then just stay away from him .. i wouldnt waste my time or energy being angry at someone who wastes their time and energybeing a jerk..

out of sight out of mind is my motto

If that's true, I don't understand why you had to pay him money to hold the group together...doesn't sound like a good friend.

First of all, the fact that this person and I have the same profession does NOT make us associates of any kind. BH's are, by our very nature, loners. Let me explain. We are a profession that is in it for the hunt and the money. If we can make the same money alone as we would grouped, and have a reasonable chance of accomplishing the mission alone, that's how we would do it, alone, so we wouldnt have to share the bounty.

Second, a good way to disourage this behavior is to spread the word about him using his name as one that cannot be trusted. Eventually he'll run out of friends and be forced to hunt alone without the use of his exploit. I role-play my BH as often as I have the opportunity. If I am offered a reasonable payoff by a target Jedi or one of his allies, I take it. This serves 2 purposes. It saves the Jedi XP by him not dying, and I get something out of it so that my time wasn't completely wasted. Some Jedi have asked me how they would know that I will abort the mission. I respond simply that, if I dont, and they spread the word that I cant be trusted, no other Jedi in their right minds would agree to it, and a lot more of my time would be wasted. Frankly, I'd rather fight it out, but taking the payoff beats sitting outside their house for hours in a contest of wills! Anyway, you get my point. By spreading the word that a particular BH cant be trusted, you make a lot of options not available to him.

That Bounty Hunter in your story is my hero. Bounty Hunters are heartless killers and you fell prey. I find it amusing. One time I had a mark on Kash, (like always) so i sent a tell to the guy telling him that about 3 hunters were coming after him just to totally blow him away as a joke. I tell him to quickly leave and they will be on Kash searching for him for hours. He leaves and says, "thanks man, you are a life saver. Besides... I missed Theed." Id be lieing to all of yah if I didn't say there was a smile on my face. I could almost see the sap at his computer desk spiting saliva as obsenities and curses blew from his "lightside" mouth. I smiled a whole lot that day. Conscience?you can't have a conscience and be a successful bounty hunter. and this needs to be learned early on in the game.

by the way, Baccacheos. what in the world is that supposed to mean? What do you do for a living? And why pick on RL less fortunate people? 20mil says you are another one of those self righteous filthy Wookers that I go after. One with a name like.... Mebacca/Traybacca/Foobacca/Crowbacca/Gaybacca that I just LOVE to kill.

thats great to call exploit when you can't really explain what happened.

while you may be upset, you entered into this adventure on your own will.

for leading the group that your mark is in, kudos.

if you used an exploit, i hope you feel dirty.
