make EVERY SINGLE Jedi just a Force Sensitive fighter who kicks ass at everything he does, and is better than anyone else. Have each server nominate 5 Jedi to be uber L337. They will kick ass and be able to take on like 20 Bounty Hunters at once. That would rock. Man, that would be balanced. And give them their FRS, and take them out of the GCW. OK, that would work. Anyone who disagrees has to arm wrestle me.

Ed your idea makes a lot of sense. Those that are force sensative have increased abilities as we know. Anakin was able to pilot a pod through the force and Luke was able to be an exceptional pilot through the force even without any formal Jedi training. Just making FS the limit until the story advances a little would make it more believable as many people I am sure in Ep IV - VI were FS not just Luke or Mara.
However SoE has already crossed the "point of no return". They have allowed Jedi to run rampant on every server with no fear of permadeath. If you changed it to your idea SoE would lose even more accounts just like after the Combat Upgrade. I would have liked to see something like that but alas its just not going to happen.

How does SOE choose these 5 uber leet guys though? There realy isn't anyway they could put this in fairly without losing 40% of their business.

Honestly, if Perma Death would work(which it can't for a few reasons) I'd say bring it back... I want a character that is hard to play, i want a character that takes time to grind, i want a character that makes most people say "screw it" after dieing too many times and having to earn it all back.
Why Perma-Death Cannot Work:
1. The game has buggs. a Jedi perma-deathing even once because of a bug starts nothing but an uproar, especially when jedi should take months to grind.
2. Jedi arn't powerfull enough for permadeath. A low lvl padawan should be able to take out 10 people, a knight/full template padawan 20 - 30 easily. That is the power jedi should have before any perma-death system could ever even be thought of.
3. Having perma-death available opens the door for spitefull players to start exploiting the system in order to severely hinder other players. Such griefing is why perma-death was removed in the first place. Currently there are some BH that grief certain jedi on a constant basis(and no, hunting is not griefing, but for example in the old days, clone camping was, and it did happen) In order for a perma-death system to be put into place, jedi would have to be removable from forced PvP(BH hunts) and trust me, neither the BH community, or the Jedi community truely wants that.
4. Did I mention that the game is full of bugs?

A system such as that can never work because then only a select few Super star's on each server would ever become jedi. This is the same reason voting could never work for light jedi because then the biggest guild(or coalition of guilds) on the server would have complete say over who got jedi and who didn't. Jedi needs to be obtainable by all, but i think they should scrap the village, and change it to a hidden system that nobody knows, that way it's back to the begining and we won't constantly see a huge influx of new jedi. Jedi should be a class that is obtainable by all, but unlocked by few, the current jedi should keep their status as they have earned it under the current system, and everybody who has taken part in teh village should be given credit in the new system for what they have done, but never should any "guide" be released by SOE on how to obtain Jedi(Giving out holocrons in the first place was stupid as it started all the BS that the Jedi grind is today) If they had kept it a secret we wouldn't be in the mess we are in today.(and not something like profession mastering, which was also dumb because not everybody would ever grind a crafting profession unless they absolutely had to)
Simply put they need to start encouraging jedi to start hiding again, as they shouldn't be poping out in every battle, i think a few jedi in a battle is flavor, too many is Jedi Knight online.
