Thread: An idea to bring balance to the game without nerfing jedi...

One of the reasons I feel that Jedi get so much hate is that this MMORPG has only one seriously elite class. Most MMORPGs have several elite classes. This is my suggestion for a system that would allow for more then just jedi to be elite. I think the followingproffesions should receive a revamp and be given a quest based system to achieve mastery of them. The revamp would make these classes on par with the math of 2.5 power level.

This idea would be fun for us, because then people would not have to become jedi when they had done everything else. It would add more content to the game, and balance out the proffession system.

Bounty Hunter: There were plenty of people trying to become Bounty hunters in the Star wars universe. But only the elite, a chosen few ever made it to the status of Boba Fett, IG88, Bossk and so on. I propose a system composed of grinding and quests to get the kind of training nessacary to join the elite of the Bounty hunters guild.

Commando: Commando should be the most elite of ranged proffesions. If all the ranged proffesions are soldiers in some way or another, the Commando should be the equivlent of the modern military's Navy Seals in comparision to normal infantry. Perhaps it could have a connection to the three different factions, with different perks to each one in the same way that Jedi are faction alinged. Why? The training of the Spets Nats(Russian Speacial Forces) Is definetly different then American or British Speacial forces. Neutrals would be Mercernaries, then you would see Rebel and Imperial versions. Grinding would be part of it, but as in real life, you have to do things to be proven ready to join the elite of any army. So quests would be in order.

A new melee class that basically is someone devoting their lives to the melee arts so as to quest to become the perfect martial arts master on par with Bruce Lee, or other legendary fighters. Quests to learn from new masters to acheive levels of skill. Along with grinding.

And perhaps a new class for crafters to take their crafting to the levels of inventing new items as opposed to only working on exsisting technology. This class would have content quests to find components and travel to distant planets to do research. This proffession could be bound to one of the other crafting proffessions that you choose to speacialize in. This proffession would be to acheive a legendary status in the way that people like Thomas Edison, and Albert Einstien did.

As opposed to contantly bickering about one proffession, we should consider just making more elite proffessions available. I think these could seriously enrich the game, and make character advancement a blend of content and grinding as opposed to just repetitive monster killing.

alpha classes suck, in any form, it wouldn't be that hard to rebalance jedi and regs actually..

I don't agree. Besides the fact that it is a fact that people will go jedi when they run out of stuff to do. This would make even more for SWG players to strive for.

The funny thing is, I was worried that the Bounty Hunters were going to dislike this idea the most. And so far they have been the most receptive. I posted it on the commando boards, and only got one response and it wasn't good. (And there is a supposed elite hybrid proffession in DESPERATE need of work.)

lol....so true, commando needs help, it's a farce....if only we could elect the Devs, the funny thing about commando is that they enjoy being bad...lol

Ok, not to completely shoot down your idea... but if you put in more 'elite' classes, whats the reason for having the other classes at all?

If you make a set of classes that are 1.5/2.5/eleventybillion times better then the others, everyone who PvP's or wants to do high end PvE will pick up those classes only.

A better way will be to make each other profession appealing (and the SL revamp is a very good step in that direction), while making jedi not as appealing for the same things.

The idea is not 'new' classes, but a sort of super-elite or "legendary" level of skill for each class beyond Master. The simple reality is, peoplecan, and generally do, grind out completeMaster Rifleman, Master Combat Medic, Master Bounty Hunter, or Master whatever templates (anything that's not designed with specified time-sink mechanisms built in, such as Jedi's Force-Sensitive prerequisites and the infamous three-week wait between quests) in a matter of a few days. On the one hand, such easy attainability for "elite" classes makes for a fast entry into the game's killin' fields. On the other hand, such easy entry cheapens the whole game, including the inevitable Jedi kills.

Jedi were nerfed downward to be on a par with these "easy-to-attain Master" classes in the name of game balance. That was the EXACT OPPOSITE of what should have been done. Rather than nerf Jedi, the other professions should have been given an upgrade path of their own. One of comparable difficulty to the Jedi grind -- and one of comparable levels of power. That way, instead of the current dismal state of affairs ("Ho-hum... just one-shot pwnd another Jedi. Tell me when we're done, okay?"), we would havehad a marvelous situation in which people had toactuallywork -- HARD -- to build up a toon to the point where he could defeat a Jediin battle... but when he actually reached that level, boththe Jedi and his nemesisobtained well-earned recognition fortheir respectivegrand, glorious achievements.

Which would you prefer? Personally, I think the whole Jedi-hunting thing right now is totally lame. It's like visiting a catfish farm and catching a whopper. Whoop-de-freaking doo. Give me a game where I have to work to reach the pinnacle of achievement. This idea points the way.
