I /bugged the battlefield thing the day after they went inactive. The devs know about it already. I don't condone using this tactic, but besides /reporting individual players, there isn't much else you can do.

Regardless of character status, I am 'jedi-friendly' and think most bounty hunters are griefers, and I hope they hate the game and quit. With that said, you understand my perspective.

Because of trolls like Hakari, et al, who come over here and insult and mislead people, I decided to go patrol the BH forums and see what happens there. A lot of good players are there, but for the most part, I was right - a bunch of griefers who get off on making other people's experience in the game suck, and then in calling them names like whiner, etc in the process. Ah, the anonymity of the internet that saves them from a good and well deserved right-cross

Anyway, the real reason I am here is to tell you that some of the BH are encouraging all of the others to start spamming the CSRs about something they say is an exploit. Apparently you can login/logout/login in rapid succession and any current BH missions on your Jedi are either broken, or you don't show up for a few hours, etc, or primarily your 'online status' shows as offline. I am not advocating that anyone do this to avoid BH missions, I am simply informing you, and I am here to advocate the other side of the equation.

I think it is exploitative that BH add their Jedi 'missions' to their "FRIENDS" list. In essence, the BH are assuming a form of omniscience that allows them to track what you do with your real life. They can see the times you log in and the times you log out, and I don't think they should have the right to do so. A Friends List is designed to allow you to connect with the people with whom you WANT to connect, not as an exploitative tool for griefers who want to harm you and track you.

They should have to send out droids to track you and take their chances re: your offline/online status.

So I am calling on the Jedi and friends of the Jedi to counter their campaign and cries of exploit. I would like two things.

1) If you agree with me, /sign here.

2) Send a letter/call on the phone (best way), or use whatever interface you can to get in front of SOE customer service and sound off as a paying customer. Tell them that you believe the exploitative use of the Friends List to track your online presence is not only an invasion of your IRL privacy by those who you have not authorized, but that is is a violation of the spirit of its use when enemies can use it to track you and know you are online. In a way it is akin to 'spam' email, in that if one does not 'opt-in' to the receipt of said mail, the mail becomes spam. Allow us to opt-in and decide upon whose Friends List we shall appear!

In fact, my legal opinion is that this ability to track one's online status is a potentially actionable invasion of privacy, and therefore it is our duty to help SOE understand our viewpoint before someone brings a class action suit re: the subject at hand.

Vote: Make the Friends List an 'opt-in' tool to allow me to connect with my compatriots. Not a tool for griefers to track my real life usage of the internet. When someone wants to add me, give me the option to 'opt-in' or 'opt-out' in the form of a pop-up that I need to accept when online. Do not make it a default tracking tool that strangers can use to see if I am on the internet.

Well the message Garva sent me said something like that...but as a marketer I know that not everyone who reads Intrepid, etc, reads the Jedi forum. On the other hand, I thought all of those people would have an opinion, and I have to say there were a dozen or so affirmative responses in mere few minutes.

Therefore I reject the premise that posting in one spot draws more attention than posting in several, and I reject the assertion that 'no one reads petitions' as Garva said.

I really wanted this to be a positive rather than a negative Garva, and now I find I am an upset and disgruntled customer instead.

Lol.... that's a myth. The customer is "always right" when in regard to what's best for the company and/or it's image.

Now here... we pay $15/mo for the game. That's for the privilege of PLAYING the game. As per the EULA, your $15/mo IN NO WAY either express or implied makes any of us have any "say" in what happens in the game.

We are "renting" the game, so to speak. These arguments are ridiculous.
