Ok well since I was the one who asked about this I might as well start. I am currently only at FT2 so I have FlameSingle1 and FlameCone1. I have plenty of c22 grenades available to me (which are getting sped up with this next patch). I am a master medic as well as master in spices. I seem to have a decent set of weaponry as far as FT/HaR/LP stats but seem to get my butt kicked by other commandos using their FTs since they seem to fire way way faster with specials (obviously higher lvl). I actually stand a chance IF i can get the first shot off but that usually only using Revenge TEF which I don't like doing.

Advise me oh wise ones.

You are dealing with more advanced commandos, my suggestion is to equip yourself with armor and use foods and spices aswell as doc buffs in order to improve your odds of survival against that first blast of fire. weather or not you live you WILL get incapped from the dot, expect it. your only chance is if you fire your shot after you withstand your enemys, and if he incaps then DB him and find a safe spot to incap/swim/get healed. As I said you will just have to expect it, this leaves you better pre-pared for it. Use partical cannon when your faceing a target at range, kneel, /aim, hope for the best. These disposables are NOT meant for small infantry-sized targets. I don't use them myself, I use my normal fire because it does as much as anyone elses spammed special shots and doesn't give me any ham costs. Sure its not a 1-shot kill but we aren't suppose to be able to 1-shot kill at ranged distances. Don't bother with grenades, they miss to much way to expensive and just aren't worth the ham costs. They have potential but SOE is blind to potential.

Ok.. these are my tactics for PvP. I tend to fair pretty well.

1.) Lose the commando tag. Having one up paints a nice target on your forehead.

2.) Avoid going into PvP alone. We are not a stand alone class. Our specials have limited range except for cannons, and those are too slow and inaccurate for 1 v 1. If you ARE alone, use the terrain to your advantage. In a city, make them come to you. This will set them up for a fast flame shot.

3.) Get close!!! In a group PvP situation, you can slip in close enough to use a special without too much risk. More so in very close situations or large battles.

4.) Invest in some good composite armor. It WILL save your butt.

5.) Pay attention to what is going on around you. While you are getting in close, someone MIGHT be waiting for you to do just that.

If you have more than one commando in the group, don't just rush up and flame. Plan a rotation or select your targets if possible. Use grenades if the battle lasts long enough.

Above all, when in doubt, fire em up.

Skills used:
Commando - your personal fav flamer special I use fs2 mainly
Carbinier - charging shot kd
TKA - blind, kd, dizzy
Pistoleer - healthshot1 and healthshot2 stacked macro
Marksmen - suppression fire

This is basically how I like to think of it.

65m - hit with charging shot
40m - spam suppression fire 3 times
25m - switch to flamer
15-5m - /aim; /fs2

If miss or they have armor
-unequip flamer hit with unarmed kd, dizzy, blind....spam the blind and make sure at least this one sticks.
-equip flamer /aim; /fs2 or if they were in armor and already hit with fs2 switch to launcher pistol/fwg5 tag with hs1 & hs2

If pets are on you and you incap owner with first fs2 switch to unarmed, blind pets then tag with fs2 or fc1/2 always better to use cone if pets are involved even when trying to incap owner.

If they run and no dots applied switch to carbine start again.

If a faster kill is needed I sometimes try hpbc at 50m while they are gettin up from kd. I think the key is to keep them as stationary as possible to help with our accuracy problem.

This works on some and dosen't work on others (especially if none of your specials hit) of course I'm wearing composite and hopefully doc buffed.

There are a lot of specials sometimes they land sometimes they don't the most important are suppression fire to close the distance and blind if your flamer special failed. (every commando has unarmed blind and suppression fire check the unarmed brawler and marksmen trees)

You may have noticed how this requires a lot of fast weapon switching and specials if you are new to commando you probably are not use to this but all the old timers know it well lol.

If you thought you'll be fine with only commando specials think again.

Wow.. you must have stats buffed to 4k or very slow targets. I have never had a fight last long enough to do all that switching. Then again, I don't have the points to get any knockdowns at all. I have 1, yes ONE, skill point left.

I'm a master commando, and I think the profession is crap other than the flame thrower. Everything else requires we find an unsuspecting and immobile stump withinmelee rangeto attack or we miss. It would't be so bad if not for the huge delay, but missing AND having such a huge delay makes it impossible. Throw grenade, miss, wait 5+ seconds, dead. Shoot particle beam, miss, die waiting. Its the same story for just about all weapons.

Hell I can't even hit low blow with my LP and I've got just about all the accuracy mods(save one box and master pistoleer box)

Ideally I just have doc buffs running and some gold in my hotbar for emergencies. So about 2-2.5k hp/action and about 150-300 in all support stats (except mind)with full composite set on. Also I'm usually fighting alongside medics heh. I don't really notice any of the specials degrading my bars too much as for the unarmed moves I don't use knucklers I just want the effects (couldn't care less about the damage) so my ham barely moves when I use them. Doc buffed support stats really help.

If the opponent is armored fights could last for about 45 seconds if unarmed it's usually over within 15-20 (the time I hit my first flamer special). And if the special misses or they're armored/buffedby the time my delay is up I can unarmed kd them again to apply the blind etc.

As for the slow targets everybody will try to run hence why keeping them still is important until you get into flamer range (kd/supressive). I don't use kd to try to keep an opponent defensless (like how they were originally used)I use it to keep them still for a good 5 seconds. When you hit with a ranged kd it tends to throw people off as well since they don't expect it from a commando.

At some point if u are facing BH, I would throw in an Actionshot to make them bleed. It usually kills them faster as they are heavily dependant on their Action bar for specials.

As a BH what I usually do is Action Shot 2 followed by Underhand Shot to knock them down then I switch to my scatter pistol and do health shot 1, 2, and bleeding shot to get them bleeding real hard. After this I whip out the LLC and do an Overcharge Shot 2 and depending on which pool it hits I use my pistol/carbine to finish up with either Body Shot 2, Leg Shot 2, or Eye Shot

PvP or PvE, stun the target first always before laying in the damage shots.

This thread is for posting PvP tactics with carbines that you use on a regular bases.

Please post what professions you are (besides carbineer)

Post who you use the tactics against.

Post the success rate of the tactic as well.

Obviously, i'm a Master Carbineer/Master CH

I have 2 tactics. one for pistoleers, TKAs, and anyone else with large amounts of KD defense mods. I just spam chargeshot, and it keeps em down before they can get to me.

the other one is for anyone nota pistoleer or TKA: Start off with a chargeshot, followed by a bunch of burstshots. Why burstshot instead of cripplingshot? because cripplingshot, while it does have that 7.5 damage modifier, always seems to hit either low or mid range damage for me. midrange is about 2k damage. Burstshot hits in its high-range about 80% of the time for me, so around 1.4-2.1k. Me not being a BH, I can't fire crippling at the cap, but i can fire burstshot at near the cap. so about the same damage, and a lot faster. believe me, hitting someone 4 times for 300-500 damage is a lot better than hitting someone twice for 50-500 damage.

I've used the latter one on everything from eyeshot spamming BHs to Master Commandos, and it works 85% of the time when you start more than 20m away. if you are closer than 20m, theres about a 50% chance of winning

the former works 100% of the time if you start more than 20m away. if you start under 20m, you have a 30% chanceunless you are burstrunning to get to your optimal range, or if you counterattack lot.

i tested these out for about 4 hours last night. A word ofcaution when vs. pets, warning shot is your friend, and if they are using graul maulers like most unimaginative CHs do, then you can easily kill em in under 30 seconds.
