Thread: When (CL) to start hunting?

Here's the situation...I'm new to the game and the profession and I have a couple of questions. I made Novice BH last night. Once I was trained up in nov BH and nov Carb...that brought me to CL 20. So I'm all geared up about itand run over to the BH mission terminal in Mos Eisley and grab the one with the lowest payout of them all...around the very low 5k cred range and it's listed as difficulty 16. So I run over and talk to the informant and get the WP to the mark. I hop a shuttle to the nearest city...which wasn't near at all. Then finally after a 10 minute speeder ride through very rough terrain I see my man...but before I can even get off my speeder the guy's made me and my speeders disabled and I'm on my back incap. Once I finally get up and run like crazy outta aggro range I stop and turn around to get a better look. The mark turned out to beCL 32! I never had a chance.

Now for the questions:

1) What CL does one start running BH missions?

2) Why did the mission tell me it was a difficulty of 16?

3) I thought mission difficulty was a suggestion on CL...is thatnot right?

Lucky for me I always carry a couple of extra speeders on me or else this would have been one heck of a bad day... it was a long trip through mountains on a bike and thatwould have ment alot of cursing as I walked back to town.

Did I mention this was a mission against an NPC...I'm not out hunting jedi here...I'm just starting out doing the npc bounties.

Vhaine, I would suggest working on weapons some first before you start working on the investigation tree. Not sure what CL would be good, since I did mine pre CU, but even then I had a good amount of the weapons done before starting invest. From what I've been seeing and hearing from others, the mission diffuculty on bh terms does not represent the CL of the npc that spawns (not sure if this will be fixed or what). Again, get some more of your weapon trees completed, and then hit up the invest tree. Good Luck.

Ok, thanks. That actually helps alot. I've had bugged missions in the past where the mission says a difficulty rating that I know is on par with my skill and then themobs that actually spawned there were like CL 4 or something stupidly low. I was just about to go out and check again to make sure there wasn't a similar bug that gave you missons to high for you to handle instead of to low.

So I'm gathering from your suggestion that investigation should something left to develop until you are well exp'd and eqt'd? I just started the game like 7 days ago. I've got 3 former guildmates with me and we're all in the same boat and we don't know anyone else in game. When it was get a mission, go to WP, and kill something...it was easy. It's when I start getting into some of the advanced stuff like this that I'm having trouble.

My copy of the game didn't come with an instruction booklet of any note..(10 or so pages). The in game help files are usually ok, but not for stuff like this. Matter of fact the one that popped up for my first mission told me that when I took it I would get a notice as to my 'contact' for information on the mark. Lucky for me I'd already read a few of the guilds here and the informant part of the guides where in my head. After I realized that no contact waypoint was incommingit only took me a minute or two to start searching for one of the NPC's around Mos Eisley. So far I love the game and I'm having a great time...my only regret is that I didn't getsome sort of50 page starter instruction book or game guide of some sort.

I think I go back to working on my carbines 'till I'm at least CL 30. That way I know that things under 'difficulty 16' should be in reach. You prolly just saved me another long ride into the wastes. Thanks.

Well, I've lvled up my carbines about 4 more boxes and BH a couple of boxes but I'm still curious about the missions. I went back to the terminals and grab the cheapest mission with the lowest difficulty I could find. I rode out and found the guy and he conned IR to me...I think he was like 38 and I'm currently CL 31. I finished him off in short order with alot of help from my trusty probot. Feeling encouraged I went back to the mission terminal and grabbed yet another mission.

The second mission I grabbed was roughly +/- 200 creds or so in payout and the exact same difficulty as the first mission I grabbed. When I get to the mark I take one look at him and just about pass out. He's15 CL's over my head! I thought I'd give it a try and test out the water just to be sure that something wasn't odd...sure enough I'm incap'ed and my droid is down in about 10 seconds flat. I don't understand the BH missions at all. Are they ment to be done with a group or something? How am I supposed to run them if they continue to scale up at the same pace as me and out of my reach? Is there a point where they begin to get really easy or when you're not facing mobs 10-15 CL over your head? It just seem confusing to me that I normal missions for the terminals I can complete with total and complete ease...but when I go to the BH terminals the targets are sometimesinsanely outta my reach solo. Why even offer a mission to someone if it's can't be finished for another 10 CL's? And why do missions with the same relative payout and difficulty result in MASSIVELY varied opponents as marks?

Example: Yesterday I completed a difficulty 35 mission for an 8.9k payout. Then I took a difficulty 26 mission for a 6.4k payout. The 35 was completed solo...the 26 killed me before I could gethim below half. I used the exact same equiptment and tactics and so did the mark...the only difference was the dif 26 mark was about 10 CL higher then the dif 35!

Use your token respec to get the investigation tree. Much easier grinding rifleman x4xx than BH 4xxx. Trust me.
