What slices would people recommend for this, and why?

DPS you do not mention this, however looking at the current stats id say it was around the 300 mark. Id definatley get it speed sliced

i think the concensious is full damage (8%), then one crit slice (3%) then one speed slice (2%) = 100% custimisation

its damage capped, you can't slice the damage, so either speed or critical, you might want to look in to the critical slice, they're supposed to be fixing that soon.

DPS numbers mean little. They don't factor in SAC costs, accuracy or damage modifiers of specials (or the cool-down/warm-up timers on them either). There's a thread on the pistoleer forum that explains it in a little more detail. http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=pistoleer&message.id=80283

With a modified speed of 1.4, you're getting to the point of diminishing returns on speed, so a speed slice isn't going to do that much for you and you're damage capped so you can't slice beyond that. With the fix coming for critical slices - I'd go all-out critical on it. I'd SAC powerup it too.

A speed slice will reduce his attack speed which is important, as you previously stated dps means nothing, but attack speed means something.

Unless you want a borked customization (probably only 85%) you should go 12% speed slice (100% customization)

No it doesn't always

Using a rifle with my MBH / MRM mymodified speed was 1.64

over 1 minute I got in something like 17 attacks

then speed pupped it.. modified speed is now 1.04

over a minute I got in exactly the same number of attacks.. tried this with various pup / slice / buff combos the point of no gain seemed to be around 1.6 to 1.7

the number of attacks Ive quoted dont matter.. what matters is that they were exactly the same with a significantly lowered attack speed IE the actual speed was no faster at all.

If you have plenty of speed tapes a speed slice will do nothing for you, however for someone like a MBH/MCM the speed proffession speed bonus will be lower so in this instance a speed slice MAY be beneficial, especially if he sticks a pup on it that increases attack speed. You gotta be very carefull how you slice your rifle or you may end up with no benefit at all.

If you can get a cheap weapon with a similar (or the same) speed and play with that first. if youre going much below 1.6 speed on your chosen combo of slices and pups then youre wasting time/ slice / pup or whatever.

heres a classic example

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=bounty_hunter&message.id=508105

That 1.43 modified speed is doing him no favours

better would have been 8% damage 2% speed and the rest in critical

at the moment I am getting a chance of criticals on any of my shots not just critical shot. ok so it doesnt actually do the critical damage at the moment but thats a known issue thats being worked on. better to have a slice that will do something in the future that one that certainly wont.. unless the guy drops master rifles or accidentally destroys his speed tapes.

Ahh excuse me there.. I have no idea if that rifle was already damage capped.. so beg pardon if it is.. Id go for critical and THEN speed.

Thanks for the replies so far.

I deliberately left off the dps as I'm aware it doesn't mean much.

The 1.43 modified speed doesn't involve any SEAs or other modifiers besides MBH & MCarb.

The issue seems to be a choice between Speed and Critical, or a combination of those.

Has some information been released that critical is getting fixed soon, or is it still just hope?

Tsumitsuki, your suggestion of finding a cheap gun with a matching speed and testing the effects of improved speed with my skills is a good one. I'll try to find something suitable when I'm next ingame.

I've seen a thread before on the Carbineer forum saying 1.7 was the target for mod speed, but that was an old post (not long after the CU) and I've seen enough recommendations for more speed and 'wtb speed tapes' posts that I'm not sure if it's still the case.

Given that the OP's carbine is already capped for damage, his slicing options are speed or critical chance. He seems to have a fair bit of speed in his template, so I don't know that an addition speed slice is going to do that much for him (diminishing returns and so on).

Per the Smuggler FAQ, a 12% speed slice is a 100% customization and a 10% Critical Chance slice is a 100% customization too. It's easy enough to get more speed via template and tapes too, if one is so inclined. Thus my recommendation for the full 10% critical chance increase and a SAC powerup. You could alternate Adv Crit Shot (which'll get even more benefit from the crit slice) and Improved Leg Shot all day and use very little action in the process.

Has anyone tried out the critical slice since publish 22 went live?

NO NO NO!!!! what is it with people and DPS?!?!?!

DPS ISNT EVERYTHING.

With your weapon speed you will NOT be able to shoot faster with a lower speed DUE TO THE COOLDOWN TIMERS ON THE ATTACKS. Go for Damage then critical and use a SAC pup. or if you REALLY want that dps, a speed pup.
