I am joining a city and the only crafting jobs not yet covered are smuggler and chef...I know how to master smug as I use to be one about a year ago when I would only play prof till I mastered them(and I wasn't grinding for anything either), but I have never done chef and am trying to decide...
Is the smuggler or chef items more on demand?
If it helps I am on the shadowfire server so that is general idea of economy...thanks for any help provided

My advice is to keep in mind that JTL is coming soon; that may be a good or bad thing for Chefs... At this time there are not space specific foods or drinks, which would seem to suggest we're all gonnalose some sales while people spend most of their waking hours in space;but the other way to look at it is that any newbs that want to play JTL will need to earn credits for ships, which will more than likely come from the ground game. I for one will keep Master Chef for a while after JTL launches to see how it all plays out...

There are many differences between Smuggler and Chef. I have mastered both, I surrendered smuggler and have always kept chef. If you enjoy the challenge of crafting and don't mind spending time hunting for resources and making that perfect schematic, chef is the way to go. If you prefer the thrill of PVE or PVP combat coupled with the ability to slice armor/weapons and make spice, go with smuggler. Both professions are challenging and rewarding, it's really all about how you want to play the game and what is fun for you.

I have never been a smuggler, however ive become a chef over the last weeks.
Almost master chef right now, i enjoy it, its fun when you make that perfect schem, and i make lots of money on my food.
And its great that i never have to look for a vendor with good food on anymore aswell

JTL is going to be the make or break of alot of the FOTM chefs. But after the excitement has died down and the combat rebalance finally goes through chef sales will pick up again, and the guys who stay and worked on making better stuff will prosper.
I see good times for chefs who stick at it.

So I just finished Investigation, and am now 4444 BH, MCH, and 4000 CM. I've got 240k combat XP to go for the MBH box, no big deal there, easy to grind.
I've got maxed Rifle XP right now, 900k worth, and I'm trying to decide if I should [1] drop MCH and go MRifles. I could use the 900k I already have to get me started, and the grind through the 240k Combat XP for MBH will mostly finish MRifles too I would think. Or [2] just keep MCH and have a unique template. I know MBH/MRifle/4000 CM is very FoTM, but hell it's that way for a reason, it's very effective... I just can't decide.

Why dont you just try how u do and decide after a while? The xp wont run away i think.
