Thanks for the replies on the other topic, but no one replied to this part. I am combat level 17, and I dont know what that means. How did I get to 17? How do I go up? Is there an exp bar that shows my progress to next level?
Also how do I get the different types of exp like standard and elite, I am half way up to novice BH, but dont know how to get the 6 elite points I need?
For my stats I am master Marksman, novice pistoleer, 4-0-0-0 scout, and 1-0-0-0 medic

The more skill boxes you fill in your chosen combatprofession, the higher your combat level will rise.

As a followup to the above post, remember that it's COMBAT classes only. Levelling as a dancer (for example) won't raise your CL any.
There's no such thing as "elite" vs "standard" XP. You're referring to the 6 Skill Points needed to unlock Novice BH. Once you have filled the right trees in Scout and Marksman (Exploration and Ranged Support, respectively), you need to save up another 42000 combat XP and then you can see a BH trainer, who will then unlock the class for you.
Hope this helps ya.

Oh, one more thing - I assume that you've realised by now that there's all sorts of XP types, such as Pistol XP, Rifle XP, etc... But what I mean by "no standard or elite XP" is that XP you gain can be used for either a standard class or an elite class, as long as it's the right type of XP.
An example to (hopefully) clarify- I'm a Novice BH. I use a rifle and grind out some Rifle XP. I can take that Rifle XP and either put it into the "Rifles" tree in Marksman, or in the "Rifles Specialisation" tree in Bounty Hunter.
