Just something I don't understand really...perhaps a bug but maybe not?

I'm Smuggler/BH, master of neither, yet.

Every time I go after an npc mark, I tend to open fire with Underhand shot. I get in a few shots while their on the ground, and when such time comes that I need to heal, I chuck a concussion or panic shot at them to allow me to catch my breathe.

I always notice that when I open with Underhand, I usually take a bit of damage...I check the combat logs and they confirm that the npc gets an attack back at the exact same time as I do. And I just tried something, thinking I'd be a bit clever... I got incapped, but my mark had very little health... so I tried to Last Ditch him...for anybody who doesn't know, the power of this shot is determined by how low your own health is. The lower your health, the more damage you do, often around 3k in a hit. It literally is a last ditch effort as you will end up with no health, action or mind. But I figured my marks health was so low that so long as I didn't miss (which happens more than I care to think about ) I'd kill him. I stood up from incap - not in combat. If I'd stood there for about 6 or 7 seconds, he would probably have opened up on me again... but I didn't wait, just shot immeditely... I should surely have got the first hit in.

To my amazement, as I stood up from incap, I got the message "you cannot last ditch while incapped". I check the combat log... he actually shot me 3 seconds before I fired... now I was definitely not in combat with him, done these mission many times over to know you have a few seconds to either get out of range or finish them off after an incap... so I never got my last ditch off. I wasn't daft enough to try this without a 'spare' incap, so I did recover and finish him off...but I just feel a bit narked that the combat system seems to work against me with npcs in terms of element of "first attack"...

Is this working as intended? I assume it's something others have noticed?

yeah npcs always seem to attack you exactly when you attack them. even on those spice fiends and such if i KD them for the first attack before im fighting them about 20 damage is above my head so they seem to attack you right when u attack or before.. kinda weird

hehe just remember one of the more amusing ones where I opened with underhand to get the message "you cannot underhand shot whilst knocked down"... I was a bit stunned at that one! Kind of annoying, but I guess I'll survive
