Thread: OK, so you've taken the BH's biggest source of intel away. Give something back...

I proposed these ideas a long time ago, and I'm surethey've been forgotten, but herewe go again.

1)
An MBH ability called "Study Prey" or "Study Mark" or some such.

The premise is that by observing your prey, as a hunter you're better prepared to take him down. This is true for both wildlife and people. Learn their habits. Learn their body tells. Learn the way they walk. Like boxers who watch fight tapes of their opponent looking for a weakness. Like a football coach reviewing the opposing team's recent games. Through observation and insight, a skilled hunter would be able to find the subtle flaws in the way an opponent moves, the way they fight, their habits.

How it would work:

The BH finds his/her prey. Doesn't matter where, doesn't matter what they're doing. Out grinding, showboating in the starport, shooting the breeze in the cantina, wherever. They target their mark and press the hotkey for the ability. Then it begins. The longer you're able to keep him targetted without him targetting you back the more of a bonus you gain while fighting him. The bonus would build up to 5 minutes, at which point a system message would come across saying "You've learned all you can about this target". The second the jedi (and jedi alone) targets you, you're assumed to be spotted. Your cover is blown. A 5 minute bonus would cut the jedi's saberblock against this ONE BH by x%. I say "x" because it's not my intent to get bogged down in specific numbers, but to examine the idea.

There would be no message to the Jedi that they're being studyed. The bonus would decay over time, so if it's not used right away (within 25-30 min), you'd have to restudy them. At the 24 hour mark, you'd have to start all over. If you fight the Jedi multiple times, the decayed stat is what would be currently used, unless you re-study them. For example, if you scored a bounty against that Jedi in the morning, and later were helping to defend a faction base and the same Jedi wandered up, you'd still get a bonus, albeit a lesser one.

Advantages:

1. Add some badly needed ability to MBH's

2. Add some thrill to the hunt (although for MBH's only).

3. It would "deal" with saberblock hosing ranged BH's without affecting every single aspect of PVP play.

Discussion Thread with some interesting additions and refinements to the idea: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=bounty_hunter&message.id=357234#M357234

2) Jedi can get into space. BH has NO idea where they are. Why not have periodic updates sent to them via email or system message or something reporting sightings of that Jedi. Sometimes it would give false positives ("Oh...well it looked like a lightsaber"). Most times it would give the correct system they've landed on at any rate. So if a BH pulls a markand finds out they're on Corellia, they head to the nearest spaceport and make with the chasing. Now, if that Jedi decides to fly to Kashyyk, the BH would receive updated intel from Spynet "Some wookie farmer claims he just saw your target land in the city of Kachiro".

Both of these ideas add some RP value. The first Idea was originally presented pre-CU and would need to be modified to fit today's combat system, but the original idea remains. Putting the HUNT back in Bounty Hunter.

Discuss, flame, argue....whatever.

Very cool idea. Well thought out. Well written. Ithink it would be good to have the bonus adjust based on the level of the Jedi. Maybe even the messagetelling you what skill level their at after the time lapses. Shorter time for the lower level, longer for the higher levels.

I might be a Jedi, but I'm not completely without merit.

good idea but im thinking only 2 types of bh can do this. riflemen and cloaking jedi/bh hybrids. havent done the math yet but im wondering if its even possible to be an effective jedi/bh hybrid since in order to hunt Jedi you have to be MBH.

Any Jedi that allows a non covered or cloaked target anywhere near him while he is grinding without targetting him would be a very unobsevant or stupid jedi...

Yup. However...

Getting an inspiration buff....

Restocking on food....

Hanging out waiting for the shuttle....

Looking for a group on MO....

Those are times where largeish groups of people are around and a Jedi is least likely to observe someone scoping him out.

Yah, and it's posted BY a Jedi to give a BH an advantage.

The mind boggles.

All good points. I guess im one of the less visible type Jedi. Most of the high risk behaviors that you list are ones that wouldn't apply to me. IE guild cantina, using alt to do supply runs and basically avoiding the larger NPC cities and highly trafficked player towns without being in a high state of alert. But if i were to get sloppy then of course it would only be right that it made me vulnerable. I like your idea, it does have merit.

Oh, I know paranoid. I don't even log in if I don't feel like I'm going to be at my absolute best, hyper-alert potential of play.

What makes it so funny other than your obvious belief that a Jedi cant possibly know anything about being a bh while of course every BH knows everything there is to know about Jedi? Folks that play both classes and dont have a hidden "I-win button" agenda generally have clearer insights into the real issues of these professions as opposed to the "OMG nerf the JETeye cuz i shot him with my cdef and he didn't die" crowd.

But even if i didnt have a MBH it doesnt matter because these boards are not restricted posting boards
