Thread: Targeting Without a Name A Solution Using Variables...

If we do not know their name until we run up on them..But when we run up on them, we see them TEFed. So the system is tracking their name or ID somehow. What is the possibility of using a variable to target who we are after? I'm not sure what the code looks like in game, but the code must interact with the live database somehow.

/tar %bountyPlayerName%

If the devs would give us this variable to use, we still wouldn't know their name, but we could use that to setup our targetting macro and put us at least on the same page on targetting as the Jedi. Thoughts?

Thats an idea I posted on the boards some time ago. I think it would be a good alternative to how the devs what to handle it. Not sure how easy this would be for them to design though. There are several other ways to removing jedi names from the terms and also make them targetable by BH. I just hope the devs listen.

Four Alternatives to current Pub20 BH/Jedi changes (deters griefing and BH still gets Jedi Name):

1) Give us the Jedi name when we get the bio-sig or
2) Give us the Jedi name when we accept the mission or
3) Give us the Jedi name when pro-bot reports back or <-but this one could also be cool.
4) Give us the Jedi name when seeker reports back <-- this one I think it best :-)

The reason I say the above, is that the bio sig is just a bio sig, the pro-bot would have to have a database of every single Jedi to be able to match DNA/BIo-sig to a name.

The tracker is well a tracker, the very name suggests that it would track the target and would be able to record the name when someone speaks to target etc. I know the ingame timing is not realistic really, but at least it could be explained a little ways better.

Yeah, I really could care less if I ever get the name....I just want to be able to run a target macro as they all do...That way I can ensure that my mark is readily in my sites when I need to blast them...

Yeah I saw someone else post the seeker idea and thought it was good too. Its my favorite of the four as well and I think it is probably the one that makes the most sense. The droid is spying on the guy getting detailed info on him/her so it only makes sense to be able to have the name.

Why do you need the name to hunt down a Jedi. I don't see what the big deal is really except you can't greif a specific person over and over anymore. Way to go Sony for finally doing something right.

If you read the previous posts you will see that we dont want the names on the terms either but are discussing alternatives to the situation now on TC. If you would read some other threads you would see that there are many reasons to know the persons name. If they are in your guild or are a friend or maybe you have been paid not to hunt them. There are a million other reasons why we would need the name. Taking the names from the terms will prevent griefing but not giving the name whatsoever is going to cause all sorts of problems.

I like this idea a lot. I could live with all the changes as long as they give us some way to target our mark directly. How is anyone without /cover going to be able to determine his target before the jedi sees him?

I hope for a solution like this, but I really doubt we will get one.
