Yes, you need to have your saber on to use the Jedi specials. At least from my limited experience grinding a friend's Jedi. It's not much, only afew days thus far, but it gave me a unique prespective on the BH vs Jedi debate. As far as your template with a Hybrid.... You will need:
MBH: 121sp
6 Trees of FS Skills: 24 SP
That leaves you with 105 SP to do with as you will for Jedi.
That will leave you enough for 4xxx Healer, and 4xxx Enhancer for Force Run2 (you'll need it)
You could spend the remaining points in 2 rows of Lightsaber, or if you drop the enhancer, you could spend them in 3 rows + 1 box of Lightsaber.
I doubt that you will be able to take down a Jedi with this type of a template. You will not have aura, shield, or armor. FR2may be enough to run away from a Jedi (certainly from a BH),but the 4xxx healer probably won't get it done either. 2 trees in LS MAY be enough, but you'd have to spend millionsupon millions of +25 GMS and +25LS speed of your fancy.
Melee Def with the above: +95
Ranged Def with the above: +125
There was a bh/jedi hybrid who took down many Jedi on naritus, his templete was like some healer and force drain. he'd drain us to death, heal using stimpacks, and use the force to heal..
Now he could still do it, but he'd have to unequip his weapon to drain

lol, I read that wrong....
Same... because it's an Elite profession that uses 2 minor professions as a base, it's still 16 SPs available.

There was a force usingBH that really managed to screw me up good. All I know for sure is he was MBH & 0400Pow. The fight didn't last long enought for anything else. He poped out of cloak about 45m from me just as the 1st wave of a picket lair was really laying into me, andgot me with a KD & a Crit. That's really all it took. The pickets had already been at me pretty good, but the damage from his attacks & the bonus damage the pickets were getting from the KD pushed me way over the top. He walks up, gets his DB, does his bow, and jogs off to cloak again.
The cloak let him get close to me without giving me any indication he was there. Rifles could do that too, but not soon enough to catch me as the 1st wave of a lair is really digging in. I don't know how well that exact tactic would work against an MDef, (or how likely you are to find a full template Jedi spinning a picket lair), but it sure worked on me.
