***Note**** this is the same as the message I posted on the Jedi forum, I just figured some BH's would be interested too cuz I've heard alot of bh's complain how cloak is not a jedi ability based off of any of the star wars lore. I hope this explains things better....

I have read alot of posts, mostly on bh forum forum but some here too, that say that since force cloak wasnt used by jedi in the movies or in the books it should not be in SWG at all.

If there are any star wars freaks out there who are as nerdy as I am than they know this is completely false. But for those of you who actually have a life I'll explain this better for you.

While it is true that Jedi cannot physically become invisible they can and do use their powers to cloud the minds of others to make themselves not be noticed. So for all practical purposes yes they can be invisible. This is not a common ability however, it is something that requires a great deal of ability and talent. In most cases it can only be done for a limited time, and not all jedi can do it anyway. here are some examples.....

1. The best example of this ability would be in the book "I Jedi" I forget who wrote it, I think it was Kevin J. Anderson, I apologize if thats the wrong author. In this book the protagonist, Corran Horn, has next to no abilities when it comes to some of the more common jedi stuff. For example he can barely even move a pebble with the force, however he has tremendous talent for altering peoples thoughts and perceptions. He uses this on many occasions to cloud other peoples minds so that they never notice his presence. He walks in and out of bars without anyone seeing him at all unless he wanted them to

2. Another example would be in the book "DarkSaber", I believe it is by the same author. Luke skywalker uses the same technique to hid himself and his comrades from a whole camp of tusken raiders for over a month. Now I must point out that this is Luke Skywalker, the most freakin powerful Jedi ever, and he was a master at the time which explians why he could do that for a whole month. But it is still worth noting

3. This one is less obvious and probably only ever noticed by uber geeks like myself, but in ROTS (the book) the author states that while Obi Wan and Yoda are in the jedi temple after they clone troopers take over all that is ever noticed is stray shadows and such. Sure maybe yoda and obiwan are just freakin uber ninjas and are quick on their feet, but Im sure some use of the force was involved in their not being noticed at all.

So it seems to me that cloak, based off of star wars lore, is a legitimate jedi ability. And how it was used in the books explains why not all jedi can do this. For a jedi to be able to cloak they need a tier 4 block in powers, which is alot of wasted sp's if your more the mace windu type when it comes to fighting. Anyway, these are my observations. It all makes sense to me the way it is.

To a degree it does make sense. But since this is a RPG, then there should be a saving throw vs the mind trick. Cloak works assuming that the person it is being used on is weak-minded. However, not everyone is weak minded. There should be a small chance that it would fail while out in the opening and a slightly greater chance for it to fail while in combat. Seriously, someone is in combat with a cloaker and his adrenaline is pumping. His mind is focused on the fight itself and he is being more attentive to what's going on around him... how would it be so easy for the Jedi to just wave his hand and the guy just "doesn't see" the Jedi anymore? Can you see how that is kind of lame? There should be a chance for it to fail, either through a "mind resistance mod" which if they just kept ist as an SEA it would have a max value of +25... keeping it from being too game breaking for a Jedi but letting there be a chance for failure, or they could just have it where it randomly has a chance for failure to begin with.

Well correct me if I'm wrong cuz I dont have cloak, but they cant do it if your too close to them right? That makes sense to me, aspecially since they jedi in this game obviously arnt Luke skywalker, and now that the frs is down there arnt any masters anyway. What your saying does make sense though, and I would agree completely when it comes to padawans. But lets say your theory is implemented, someone who is Mpowers and not just 0400 or whatever branch it is ( I forget) should have a greater probablity of achieving cloak. And someone who is a Jedi knight or master (currently there are none, even if they have the title the mods are turned off) their cloaks would be damn near impossible to see through unless you were a jedi master yourself.
