Thread: MBH Ethics
Ethics are personal issue. Some say don't go against your guild/faction. Others say all is fair. As for tactics if you think it is a legit PvP technique it should fly.
Know this though, no matter what you do you will likely piss somebody off at some point. And when that happens you will get hate tells. The important thing is to just act like a professional doing your job, in the end most people will repsect that.
You will find Haters after every DB you give. But surprisingly, they are found in the group that the Jedi is with. So, you need to choose how you will play yourBH.
Will he go after LD kills?
Will he group with a Jedi on Dant and then kill him when things are going tough?
Will he hunt same faction?
These are just some of the questions that you get to choose when going BH. Sounds fun don't it.
Bottom rule for me is no Jedi is off limits. That includes LD Jedi. Now I have killed onl;y 2 LD Jedi in my time...and they both happen to be 25K. They both were moving when I tracked them...and they both were logged out in the middle of no-where. Think of it as a learning experience for them. Anf the reason why they are 25K......they always remember their first ![]()
Good luck out there
I hope I never remember my first, because I hope to never be in this situation. I happen to RP my Jedi, which means staying out of the way of everyone else with my saber, and hence off the terminals. Obviously, it's near impossible to do that, as there are very dishonorablegriefers who have no qualms about Force cloaking themselves and getting visibility for unsuspecting padawans, then taking their mission. And don't blame me if I gave someone an idea; this has been well-documented. But it's also something thatBHs worth their salt don't do, because they don't HAVE to.

Will he go after LD kills? - Cheap, but the ball is in play. It's the Jedi's fault.
Will he group with a Jedi on Dant and then kill him when things are going tough? - Sneaky. Fair play to the bounty hunter, this is a very good tactic.
Will he hunt same faction? - This is just wrong. If you are a bounty hunter, you hunt for bounty, but if you join any faction, that should always supersede. By joining a faction, you are saying your beliefs in that faction lie above your belief in the almighty credit.

Every jedi is an enemy of the empire. I'll roleplay it that way, thank you very much.

Some people say not to hunt Jedi of the same faction as you. Personally, I'm neutral, so it doesn't matter to me. However, I look at it like this. If you are an Imperial, you have an easy out, because the Emperor said that all Jedi are enemies of the Empire (or whatever that old coot said). So the chief man said to ALL Jedi, not just light Jedi. Easy enough there. Heck, if I considered myself a respectable Imperial soldier, I'd want to kill all Jedi, whether they are loyal to the Empire or not. Heck, don't dark Jedi always want to take down the top dog anyways? They are a threat to your Emperor's life man! If you are a Rebel, it might be a little tougher to explain. But then again, who said Jedi are on your side anyways? We are set between Episodes IV and V, so the only Jedi that exists that you could possibly know of who would be considered loyal to the Republic would be Kenobi, and he's dead. So who is to say taht Jedi would be on your side? After all, a lot of people were led to believe that the Jedi were enemies of law and order, so maybe you believe that too? Or maybe since the Rebellion is so small, you aren't getting paid much. Perhaps you care about the Rebellion, but need the cash you can make by killing Jedi. My point is, no matter what your faction is, if you want to hunt Jedi of the same faction, you can come up with a legitimate reason. If you don't like the idea, don't do it, simple as that.
We also have the issue of AFK killing. Some people say it's unfair, that there is no honor in it. Personally, I'm not in the job for honor. Azalus Murishini is apparently Huttese for Bounty Hunter Scum, and that's what I am; scum. However, I personally feel that if a Jedi can't be bothered to go AFK in one of the hundreds of other safe places to go AFK, and instead is AFK while out of doors (and probably on Kashyyk running a grinding macro), then it isn't my problem. Heck, I love AFK killing, because I don't have to worry about anyone fighting back, and I get to kill people who aren't playing intelligently and yet will still probably whine that I'm a griefer. Basically, like above, you can rationalize AFK killing, but if you don't think it is fair, don't do it.
Along the same lines is LD killing. I will kill LD Jedi. Again, I'm scum. Killing Jedi is what I do. A player can go LD for a number of reasons. Perhaps their connection crashed. Or perhaps the Jedi got wind of what you were doing, and /quit in hopes of avoiding combat. You don't know why the Jedi went LD. SOE made ALL players attackable for a period of time while LD because they didn't want to give people a free ride out of combat if they were to simply yank the cord out of the wall and crash the game. You are ALLOWED to kill LD. If it makes you uncomfortable, don't do it.
There's also the idea of "kill stealing". This is basically when you wait for your mark to get low on Force or HAM (or both) while PvPing or grinding, then you hit him and go in for the deathblow. You don't do most of the work, but you still get paid. I do this too. I think it is just smart hunting. However, if you do this and you feel like it wasn't fair, don't do it.
Then there is padawan hunting. I do this too, in case you couldn't have guessed. Basically, Jedi are intended to be 1.5x stronger than other professions. So basically, a full template Jedi is 50% more powerful than you. It is possible to kill these Jedi, but you'll have more luck hunting lower level Jedi. I personally don't hunt too low because it might not seem worth my time. But I enjoy playing my profession, so I would hunt the lowest payout of Jedi possible if that was all I had available. But I'm in this to get rich, so I hunt basically the highest payout that I feel I have a 99% chance of winning the fight. Most Jedi call you a griefer if you hunt anyone that THEY consider to be a noob Jedi. They think it's unfair that they lose XP when you kill them, and they need the XP more when they are lower, or at least they feel they do. If you hunt a Jedi that you know you can kill, you'll inevitably get complaints that you are hunting someone beneath you for an easy kill. Well of course you are! Would they consider themselves griefers if they are more powerful than you and kill you? But again, make the choice based on what you feel comfortable with. However, just for reference, the 100k-126k range is generally considered by most BH to be a pretty ideal range. It pays well, and can be a difficult fight, but you have a good chance of winning.
Of course there is the issue of killing a Jedi that you dupe into befriending you. I love this one. I've never done it, b/c Jedi aren't too keen on befriending a Jedi, but I'd love to do it. I think it's so sneaky, and ingenius too. Basically, you befriend a Jedi, then follow him around and wait for the right moment to strike. If you don't want to do it, don't do it.
Then there is camping. I don't do this, unless I really want the kill, but I don't have a problem with it. A lot of Jedi spend a lot of time indoors and afk. They also can exploit a bug that allows them to engage you and yet still run inside a buliding and thus end combat at will. This is a known bug, but nothing seems to be getting done about it (you'll get used to that as a BH, but don't accept it...fight for a fair game). If you want to wait it out and catch them outside, that's your perogative. Personally, I find it easier to just move on and let them go on hiding. They are wasting their own time inside while worrying about what I'm up to, so it's almost as fun as a kill. Jedi will sometimes call this griefing because you are "holding them prisoner." They feel that you are actually forcing them to remain indoors. I call BS on this one, because they can make the choice to come outside and fight, or even continue running. They can also log and play their free alt character. You can't actually physically keep them inside, so if they hide their, it's their choice. However, as always, if this feels wrong to you, don't do it. Just be careful, because if you do this for too long and they get ahold of the right CSR, that CSR might kick you from the mission. It has happened, fair or not. But this is like anything...if someone talks to the right CSR, they will find someone to agree with them on any issue.
Taking a mission on the same Jedi repeatedly is also an issue. Personally, I'll do this too. I figure that the Jedi makes the choices that gets them visibility and thus hunted. They choose to get on the terminals every time they use powers around an NPC or PC. At any one time, a Jedi can have 5 missions available on him. That means 5 separate BH can hunt him at once. When one of them succeeds, the other 4 lose the mission on the Jedi. That Jedi loses all visibility, and is back to basically being invisible again. If they choose to showboat their powers and get back on the terms, then they count as a new mission, and thus a new Jedi. As with many things, and as I stated before, if a Jedi talks to the right CSR, they will find someone who will tell you to stop griefing the Jedi. You gotta roll with the punches though. If you don't like this idea, don't hunt the same Jedi repeatedly.
The last thing I can think of off the top of my head is group hunting. Like I said, 5 BH can hunt one Jedi. If you get together and group with another BH with the same mission, you increase your chances of winning. The pay will get split between you and your cohort(s). This is something I'm willing to do, but don't do often (mostly because I don't feel comfortable enough yet as a hunter post-CU and want to get used to dropping Jedi on my own first). Many Jedi feel that the fight should be 1v1. This shouldn't be a surprise, since they are by nature more powerful than you. Use the game to your advantage. It isn't necessary to use a group to kill Jedi, but if you find you can't drop your mark and you really want to, I say get help. However, if you don't like to do this, don't.
Basically, the only thing I consider to be wrong is to exploit. If you find a bug in the game that you can easily get around, but still use the bug to your advantage, you are cheating. If you don't want Jedi to cheat, don't cheateither so that you have a clear slate when you report the cheating Jedi. I can't think of any exploits of not for BH to use, but they are probably out there. I advise you not to use exploits.
I also don't go in for starting a /tell war. If someone has something stupid to say to me for killing a Jedi, I'll say something in return, but I won't get bent out of shape.
The nature of our profession requires us to kill other characters. If this is something that makes you uncomfortable, you need to find another profession. Understand that it is OK to kill Jedi, and it is part of the game. Any Jedi who tries to convince you otherwise just is upset that they don't get to have their cake and eat it too. They get a lot of really awesome abilities, and get to play what most people will agree is the coolest profession in Star Wars. In return, they will be hunted and temporarily set back in their journey. It is my personal opinion that many Jedi are in this game to "win". That isn't what this kind of game is about. You don't "win" SWG the same way you win another computer game. These are the Jedi who will be most upset about you, and probably taunt you and tell you that you are inferior. They'll probably laugh at you and tell you to try unlocking if you think you are so powerful. That's not why I bought this game though. I bought this game to be a Bounty Hunter. The fact that I hunt Jedi is secondary. I enjoy the idea of hunting another person, rather than just another NPC. I also don't want to be forced into combat, so I wouldn't want to be an overt PvPer (or a Jedi for that matter). I like the excitement of tracking another thinking person, rather than just an algorithm in the game. That player could be a dancer for all I care, I'd still hunt.
To play this profession, you have to accept the fact that you will upset other players, and it could quite possibly be every Jedi you hunt. You will eventually notice that these Jedi will call you inferior if you win, and inferior if they lose. They are upset, but if you want to play this profession, that can't be your concern. Play by the rules and you are an ethical player. An ethical player is an ethical BH.
When is this book coming out in print? J/K. Good advice

Some good advice in amongst all the waffle though
