Thread: Proposal: More Emersive Visibility System
Purpose: To create a visibility system for Jedi that more reflects how visibility would realistically work in the Star Wars Galaxy while remaining fair and useful for both Bounty Hunters, Jedi and normal player professions.
Current System:
Anytime a Jedi equips or utilizes a saber or force power w/in 32m of a NPC or Player Character, visibility is generated on a sliding scale based on the alignment of the NPC or PC viewing the infraction. Visibility amounts obtained are .25 For an aligned NPC or PC, .50 for a neutral NPC or PC, 1.0 for an opposing NPC or PC.
Complaints from the Community:
Bounty Hunters – Visibility range is too narrow, more difficult to get Jedi on the terminals due to the reduced radius in which visibility is generated. “I can see the jedi swinging his sword from 65m and I can shoot him, why shouldn’t he generate visibility?”
Jedi – Visibility with player characters is unfair. “SWG is a MMORPG yet I’m not allowed to hunt w/my friends w/o getting killed constantly.” “Group members should not give me visibility”
Other Professions – No effect, no emersion.
Solution:
1. Increase NPC visibility to 64m. This is more reasonable in that if a NPC or PC can see you from 65m attacking or using a force power then it makes sense that they should be able to report you… (Jedi will not like this proposal, however…)
2. When a player character would normally cause the Jedi to obtain visibility an OPTIONAL pop box appears. “You have witnessed the illegal use of the force, as per Imperial order xx773j4 you are required to report this activity, do you wish to do so? YES, NO” If you answer YES then visibility is transferred to the Jedi at the 1.0 rate. If you answer NO, then no visibility is transferred to the Jedi.
3. Create options boxes that a player can choose as a default value so that an annoying pop up box is not always introduced… For instance
• Always report players using the force
• Never report players using the force
• Only report non-aligned players using the force
• Ask me
4. When a player character answers yes either by default or by popup, the Jedi’s mission record if it exists is updated in the details pane with the planet and coordinates of where the visibility was incurred.
This solution would provide the following for the community… Jedi would be able to hunt with a trusted group of friends without incurring visibility, however all groups would not necessarily be safe depending on the make up of the people in the group. In return for being able to hunt safely with their friends, jedi would be more at risk from NPCs with the increased visibility radius. Other players not in the Jedi / BH relationship would have some emersion and ability to participate in determining if a Jedi was turned in to the Empire or not. This would also provide many opportunities for role-playing… for instance:
Sith Lord X runs across Rebel player Y. Rebel player Y needs help with a quest etc. The Sith Lord agrees to assist with the intention of using the encounter for his own gain. The quest is completed and the Rebel answered “NO” that he would not turn in the Sith Lord because of his help… but then the Sith Lord wrongs the rebel (steals the loot or what not)… Later on down the line their paths cross again… The rebel reports the Sith Lord for use of his abilities. It keeps the system from being an all or nothing deal.
Thoughts?

I see some good points, but I have seen similar proposals (including one of my own) that got flamed becasue of the Player Reporting clause. Many thought this was opening the door to a form of Griefing (which I disagree with, but others did agree with).
I think that ANY visibility system that allows a Player Bounty Hunter to hunt a Player Jedi will draw a slew of complaints from Jedi that feel they are being harrased. Remember that Overt and Covert were eliminated/replaced by Combatant and Special Forces becasue people felt that they were FORCED into PvP (which is Evil, don't ya know). It is only a matter of time beforePlayer Bounties will cease to be, and Player Jedi will end up being hunted by NPC Bounty Hunters, and Player Bounty Hunters willhave to hunt NPC Jedi.

I vote no. I don't want a system that results in less net visibility for padawans overall. There are too many of us, so things need to get harder, not easier.
Sometimes, you make alot of sense Caelrie.
