I currently have 37 Imperial faction. (22 Imperial faction just showed up one day and out of curiosity I did one ortwodelivery missions.)

I also have 75 Rebel faction. Interesting that the Rebel missions I do have no negative Imperial faction. The only faction I am getting is argubly a neutral (thug) faction.

Since I can have both factions, I am wondering if I could get both to 200, then trade off on being Rebel or Imperial. (Or does the opposing get dropped to 0 if youjoin a side?)

Anyone?

Also what is the penalties for being overt? How long does that 'hey shoot me' flag stay up if you decide to go covert or quit the faction?

Cheers.

I smell a spy..lol

Your overt staus stays for one hour after you tell the recruiter you want to go covert.(or until you are db'd)

This is just a guess, but I think you can swap back and forth between faction. You would have to sign up then resign each time. 200 is the minumum. This would be very hard to keep up though. Since you wouldnt want to fight either side.(not much point to it really that I can see.) Besides people finding out would harass you> I know I would TRAITOR DIE!!!!!!! lol

When you are neutral, you can do destroy missions for either side. These destroy missions will not be directly against the opposing side, but against "gamblers" or "terrorists" who are guarding a supply depot or some-such. Doing these missions will give you positive faction with the side you worked for, and no faction hit to the other side. So it's pretty easy to get both Imperial and Rebel faction to 200 doing destroy and/or delivery missions.

Once you join a faction, however, the destroy missions you get from the faction terminals will send you directly against the other side, and completing such a missions will cost you a faction hit for the side you attacked. So, once you join the Rebellion, any destroy missions you take will cause your Imperial faction to plummet. Likewise, once you join the Empire, any destroy missions you take will cause your Rebel faction to plummet.

In summary, yes, it's pretty easy to get both factions to 200 (or higher) and keep them there, and then switch sides back and forth to your heart's content; but once you join a faction, it's nearly impossible to advance in it without demolishing your faction with the other side.

Aha! Thanks. I wanted to trade sides because I wanted to see how the Main story (cries of Alderaan) played out for each side. Maybe I'll just make another character on another server..I just hate the grind up advancing...

Yes and no.

If you are an Imp or Reb Bounty Hunter you CAN accept MISSIONS from the terminals for either Imp or Reb Jedi (if they work). However, as an Imp or Reb bounty Hunter, you will not see a TEF above a Jedi from the same faction for the use of Force Powers.

I am currently a neutral Bounty Hunter (as IMO BHers SHOULD all be), the only way I ever get a TEF for a Jedi is through the terminals. I cannot attack either Imp or Reb Jedi for using Force Powers...........which is lame and sucks azz.

Saw the PS

Actually I checked the FAQ's first..couldnt find the answer there so...here I be.

One other question relating to faction: If a Reb and an Imp are both on Leave say the SL is Reb and the Imp is in his/her/its squad. Will the onleave imp receive any of the bonuses/buffs/abilities from the Reb SL?

think of factional affiliations on a sliding scale:

2 1 0 -1 -2

with 2 being spec forces, 1 is combatant, 0 is on leave, -1 is combatant of other faction, -2 SF of other faction

what ever level on this scale the SL is at, he will effect others ONE LEVEL below him, but will NOT cross to 'negative' and will not effect any level above him.

so to answer your question, yes an onleave reb SL will give his bonuses to an onleave imp. he wouldnot if the imp was combatant, nor if the reb is combatant.

actually, this goes for any player generated 'assist' of another player. i.e. healing, buffing, etc

It wasnt in the FAQ, so you were right to ask it here.
