I am a master marksman, novice BH and novice pistoleer...I used ot be pretty good, but now I log in and cant use any of my guns. I tried the easiest BH misison and died without taking off 10% of the mark's life. WHY I am FORCED to use newbie guns? How does the combat lvl work? How the heck am I supposed ot get it to 50-80? All of the guns I had been using for a long time I cannot use sisnce it says I am combat level 18. How the heck to I complete bounties, how does combat level work, and how do I get it up quickly. There arent even 80 combat skill boxes to buy wihtout running out of skill points???

Please help me out, these new changes have me regretting buying the expansions and restarting my account...

basicly CL is based on how many SP u have commited to a template and how elite those boxs are that your skill points are being used in. i know how you feel i was forced to use some noobish guns but ifu find a grind group and grind for a few hours a day (if that) you'll get to lvl 80 in no time

you will notice now certain guns instead of having a requirement in skills ie novice pistols or pistols xxx4 u need a certain CL lvl, kind of a good idea but it also means that jedi for example can use laser rilfes if there cl is high enough

thanks for your reply, but can you put it in easier terms? How in the world is being Master Marksman, 1-0-0-0 scout, nocie BH, Novice Pistoleer, novice medic CL 18 ?!

It doesnt make any sense. I dont even know what I supposed to be leveling to get higher.

You need two elite masteries to be CL 80, and I think it goes up based on complete branches in the elite professions. As a master marksman, novice BH and novice pistoleer, you dont have any elite branches done, so your CL is still around 18.

Thats how I understand it, anyway.

basicly because in SWG's eyes thats still kinda noobish so your CL represents, ok these are not the exact stats but its a simple way of putting it

each box has a set + to cl for all the novice boxsits +1 in your CL

for elite boxs its say for example +2/+3

if that makes sence now obviously these are not the exact figures and its a bit more complicated

I understand the CL system completely. However, I only wish I had the power to convey how it works. I just don't.

As you invest in skills, you gain more CL XP, essentially. All combat skills *placed into a box and used* will give you CL XP based up on the combat XP invested.

So, if you invest 1000 XP into marksman 1xxx, for example, that gives you 1000 towards your CL XP. Some skills are tougher or more important than others, so they convey more CL XP. Off the top of my head:

All Combat Professions 1:1 ratio

Scouting (not traps) 1:2 ratio

Combat XP 1:3 ratio

Investigation 1:35 ratio

Just about everything else 1:1 ratio

So, by the time you're done going up one elite combat profession, say rifleman, you would need the skills:

Marksman 4xx4

Master Rifleman

It costs, in marksman, rifleman, and combat XP, to get to that master box, 6,197,650 in total (remember, all combat XP boxes give you 3x normal) That number will get you CL 55. To get to CL 80, you need roughly 12,000,000 CL XP.

If you're still confused, ask away. Although the strategy guide from Prima is a waste of 15 bucks, I don't know what I'd do without it in regards to CL and experimenting with templates.

XP-wise, particularly if you're a BH, you can easily get over the XP needed for CL 80, but 80 is the hard cap.

Also bear in mind that your weapon may not be the only issue - now, if a mob is under your level, you do much more damage to them, and they do little to you. If the mob is higher than you, they do more damage to you, and you do less to them. It gets kind of stupid when you're soloing, but in groups it's no big deal.

For more help, you might want to download a "profession calculator." There's one at www.bloodfin.org. It will allow you to design templates and give you the CL of your char as you go.

Anyway. Does that help? At least a little?

Try using a profession calculator - that might help give you an diea of how CL is calculated... Here is a good one.
