Thread: what alot of BH dont realise duelist stance does almost nothing vs a saber!

OK first off - i play both sides of the fence - have both a MBH and a jedi toon as well have having been a MWS in the past



when im on my jedi the funniest thing i see is a BH stopping every now and then to reapply a Duelist stance buff (as you have to stand still to do the warmup)


duelist stance adds 250 defence (ranged and melee) at 4xxx BH - this mod forces weapons to hit you nearer the weapons MIN damage rather than nearer its MAX damage.


it works on a sliding scale between +/- 750 over the attackers accuracy mod


that is - you have 750 defence more than the attackers acc youll get hit for...


(min damage x attack multiplyer) + elemental


if your def is 0 and your attacker has +750 acc then its


(max damage x attack multiplyer) + elemental


now on to what most BH (and alot of jedi) dont realise the sabers strength (and why a half decent saber is better than even the best of rifles in skilled hands) is its very small min/max damage range - usually 100 points or so.


this almost completely negates the effect of duelist stance - COB and aura defencive mods...


typically +250 defence will mitigate 1/6 (250 is 1/6 of the full range of 1500 between +750 and -750) of the diff between max and min.


1/6 of 100 is about 16 points.... - factor in that if your kiting youll usually get hit more if you stop and apply the buff and it completely negates the point of applying it in the first place - particularly vs jedi who dont have the Master sabers ranged KD move.


typical damage of a 700-600 saber (with AB on) on a 8000/5000 resist suit is 538 with duelist on and 547 with it off...





conclusion - use duelist vs any non jedi opponent and def use it vs any PvP enemy but vs a jedi - even one with a pitiful saber - leave it off - the action and mind cost as well as the combat turn are not at all worth it

but doesnt the defensive bonus factor in to the "chance to hit"...ie more defense means the chance to miss your opponent increases? Sure the defense doesnt do much when your hit but if the duelist stance somehow increases the number of "misses" then its worth thinking about using

its very marginal in its adjustment in chance to hit. what follows is just personal observation though - cant back this up with numbers as its almost impossible to test


with my jedi (0404 sabers - taped up to the equivelent of MLS in mods) 200 accuracy i hardly ever miss a BH whether or not he runs duelist stance. with a ranged prof (my alt is MBH MCarb) 280 acc or so? in pvp vs a non jedi i will tend to miss more than my jedi does - im currently trying to test is melee players have inherently more chance to hit than a ranged player (makes a little sense id suppose)


either way the miss chance from duelist is not great - youd be alot better to just keep running and not stop

agree it is better on than off... but i was kinda aiming this post at the BH that try to keep it up at all costs.. like you should do vs an elite mark - also dont bother with melee def food - its currently broken..

a mbh w/ duelist stance will much longer vs a blinded jedi then a mbh vs. a jedi


most states and such do not have HUGE impact...the the lil things do add up considerably...eg...dizzy + warningshot already lowers a jedi's defense by appr. 160, add intimidate shot and it's 180 PLUS 20% damage reduction...and so on and so on....


people didn't understand how to use states pre-curb, and seemingly they still don't now

correct on the dizzy etc - stating a jedi is very useful.


however even with the jedis acc down a little and duelist up that improves the acc/def values by like 400 max in your favour.


400 will reduce the damage you take by around 40 - yes its starting to get a little significant.. but even so i wouldnt stop to apply it

i've read on the tailor or be boards that if you re-equip weapons, it will update you and your defense mods will work...

yup re-equiping seems t owork...


and 40/hit is defenitly worth it imo.....seeing how long some fights last..., don't forget he'll miss a lot more due to the blind too....


I always try to keep the jedi under effect of intimidate/warning/blind/dizzy
