Well... I havent posted here in a long time. I havent had alot of time to play SWG recently, what with whats going on overseas in Iraq. Now then, lets get the obligatory BS out of the way: This topic is meant to breed discussion, not dissent. It is not meant to flame, but to incite thought (as opposed to riot.)
Okay, with that said. Lets tell you a little bit about me for those who dont know? I am a jedi, I am also a Bounty Hunter. Yes, I play both sides. Im not going to comment on which I like more, or what My BH's names are (its not Tec, OR Xire) But, you can all know my Jedi is Xire Eseir on Radiant. Now then, on to the meat of this post!
Personally, I believe that the root of all the problems with jedi being too uber and unstoppable comes from several sources. First, look at the Star Wars movie saga. In it you see of course jedi. Jedi such as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Mace Windu. Yoda, Anakin Skywalker etc. Well, when you watch the movies, what comes to mind first? For most people I would imagine it is these individuals. Paragons of virtue, heroes of the jedi order. And that is EXACTLY why people expect their jedi to be uber. They watch the movies, and they see Anakin Skywalker cut through hordes of battle droids like its nothing! They see Mace Windu lop off Jango's head and expect to be able to do the same to BH. They see Yoda single handedly cause a Sith Lord to retreat in EPII and think they should be able todo the same! What they dont realize is these indviduals are what you would call unique specimens. Individuals whose ability far exceeds the average jedi knight! If you watch EPII and III more closely, you will see 'average' jedi knights cut down in the Geonosian Arena in EPII by withering laserfire which they couldnt block/reflect. And in EPIII of course we see the end of the jedi order, not just because of Darth Vader, but Clone Troopers cut down the majority of the jedi with blasters. So, while jedi are certainly more powerful than a non force-wielder, they are not, and should not be the godlike entities people want them to be. Jedi are not gods, they are not even archwizards in the traditional sense. Jedi in my opinion are more like monks in 3rd Edition D&D. Powerful warriors whose training regimen elevates them above the normal warrior, gives them some mystical powers, but doesnt make them immortal, or a god. Thats not to say that jedi are weak, or easy to defeat. Even a Master Bounty Hunter should have trouble defeating a Jedi Knight, it only makes sense.
Then you have the argument that jedi ARE too strong. You know, your probably right! I have seen 5 bounty hunters at once attack a full template jedi, we EVENTUALLY beat him, but it took almost 1 and a half hours of pounding on him to do it! 5 on 1! I was one of the bhs in that battle, and ya know what? After it was over, we didnt even get our money because he had been triple incapped using master enhancer to get back up and heal before we could deathblow! So yes, jedi are WAY to strong! A jedi knight shouldnt be able to last that long against 5 MBH! A smart jedi knight would retreat and regroup, and maybe even not come back to fight at all! Unless yourone of those 'heroes' of the order, you SHOULDNT be able to do that!
Now, its well and good that everyone wants to be a hero god of war type. But when you bought the game, did it say 'become a god of war hero jedi' or did it say 'Live your own star wars saga'
Well, I know what my box said, and it didnt mention anything about being god-like...
As to why I put this in the bounty hunter forums? Simple, this post mainly supports the non-jedi viewpoint, and exposes some fundamental flaws in the way players of this game think and view jedi!
Post your comments and whatevers in this thread...try and avoid flaming...though if things are still as they were, that probably wont happen!
