If you bank it, then drop you can keep it untill you gain inv xp again, then the cap gets set at whatever lvl you're at (you lose inv xp)

well, what I mean is, once i max out on investigation xp, will that be enough to fill all 4 trees if I drop it?

I remember during respec period I had tried this but lost much of it whenever I relearned Investigation 1. Learning that box adjusted my experience level to that new cap. Not sure if it's still this way or not but I generally wouldn't recommend it.

Well xp caps at 60,000 and amount for 1-4 inv is something like 34,000. Only thing I'm not sure is when you get reset back to your cap (when you kill anything for xp, or kill something for inv xp only...)

The answer is no. Your Investigation XP cap will be reduced to a smaller amount and training or gaining investigation XP will cause you lose whatever excess of the cap. You might be able to get to Investigation II with a short grind to III but to get to 4 wouldn't happen.

With just novice BH, your investigation cap is set at 10k....so if you have 60k or so inv xp and you drop everything, as soon as you train the first box of investigation...you'll drop xp to the point of only being able to train the first, second, and have a few thousand xp into your 3rd box.

No you don't I tried it when you drop the invest tree you cap goes down to 15k
