sym·bi·ot·ic

  1. Of, resembling, or relating to symbiosis.

  2. Relating to, characterized by, living in, or resulting from a state of symbiosis

sym·bi·o·sis

  1. A close, prolonged association between two or more different organisms of different species that may, but does not necessarily, benefit each member.

  2. A relationship of mutual benefit or dependence.

That is how Players should be looking at the BH/Jedi relationship. I know, this is where the first flame comes in "But Jedi shouldn't even be in-game!". Or my favorite "Jedi breaks continuity so thats why I grief, slam, and hate all Jedi players!". Well... the Jedi player didn't add jedi to the game. So why beat them up? We have to take a step back from this silliness and really take an intelligent look at this situation.

I just want to fill you in a little on me before Icontinue so I don't get a lot of "Another Jedi coming to our boards to start a flamewar" replies. The first time I mastered BH was over a year and a half ago. I walked to my investigation missions. 75% or more where bugged. There were no Jedi, there were no player bounties. I changed professions many times (never was a hologrinder, this was my natural progression) TKM, Doc, Artisan, Marksman, Scout, Pilot, MBH (again), Swordsman, Pikeman, etc... So, I understand that there are more professions to this game than BH and Jedi. Just because I currently have a Jedi toon doesn't mean I suddenly forgot. My alt is a Shipwright, Nuetral Pilot and is currently grinding through ranged profs (not sure which to go with).

Now onto my main point. Jedi and Bounty Hunters are linked, period. Thats all there is to it. Players unlock Jedi, begin on their Paddie grind and know from day 1 they need to watch their backs. These days I see many Paddies that grind and don't even think about visibility. Well, we know what happens there. They end up on the terms within their first week (while they are at about CL60) and get themselves into deep negative exp. Those Jedi usually end up quiting or just never logging in. As an FYI, Jedi exp is about the same ratio as combat exp. It's roughly a 10-1 ratio compared to regular weapon exp. Also to complete the average template you will need 36,460,000 Jedi Exp (about 364,600,000 regular weapons exp.). This can take months to achieve.

Bounty Hunters can complete their grind in considerably less time, I'm not trying to deminish the BH grind but just giving a perspective. Lets look at the current FOTM BH. MBH/MCM/Rifles 4000. That is roughly....

  • 34000 BH exp

  • 1225000 Carbine

  • 412550 Combat

  • 6116650 Medical

  • 1225000 Pistol

  • 2666000 Rifle

  • 45500 Scout

Now there is a difference there (remember that Carb/Pistol/Rifle is given out at 10 times the rate of Jedi exp.). That just means I can grind a full template MBH/MCM/Rifles 4000 in about a week if I'm taking my time. So this is just for a comparison with no opinion attached to it.

So onto my point. Bounty Hunters enjoy hunting Jedi. Well, most do. But needless to say it is a large part of their "content". With the addition of the new investigation missions Bounty Hunters have been helped out a lot lately. Personally, I think these are good things. I wouldn't change a thing about it. Bounty Hunters who desire some PvP action need Jedi to fulfill this. The GCW is in shambles on most servers so this gives some much needed one on one PvP. There is skill in tracking your target, picking your position, and knowing when to begin the attack or back off to wait for the best oppurtunity. If the battle is won there is a nice 250k payout, if the battle is lost you incur some decay and a good lesson.

Jedi, they KNOW the BH'ers are out there. If they go around showing off their sabers, meditating in public, killing NPC's, or generally showing off they will end up on the terminals. Some don't want anything to do with PvP, but they knew it was a part of Jedi when they choose that route so I cannot give credibility to that arguement. It's possible to stay off the terminals by just paying attention to your own actions. But if you do end up being hunted here is what you can expect. When the BH comes there is going to be a fight. You may win, but if you lose you will lose 350k Jedi exp. That can hurt. Especially if it happens to you often. This is a setback. BUT, part of being a Jedi is the "content" of being hunted. Some Jedi go out and generate visibility just so they can get some one vs one PvP as well.

The point is, the Jedi BH system is only worth playing as long as there is a challenge and a benefit for both. Jedi should not have an "I Win" button. Cries from the forums have led to nerf after nerf since Publish 16. Bounty Hunters should not have an "I Win" button either. If either side has an unbalancing power then the opposing side starts to fade away.

If BH has an overpowering advantage (as they will very soon with SL buffs) you will notice less and less Jedi on the terminals because they simply won't login. Which pigeon holes you back into NPC missions only. If Jedi has an overpowering ability then you will see BH'ers showing up to hunt you less and less while the other professions call for nerfs. This game has more than 2 professions, there's more than just BH/Jedi. Crafters, Entertainers, Melee, Ranged... many want nothing to do with Jedi or BH. Why should they be ignored in favor of this broken mechanic.

If anyone side gets an overpowering special it just means the Dev's will Nerf it and the opposing side then gets the advantage. The war is fought by Dev's and Nerfs not by BH'ers and Jedi. The Jedi/BH community needs to realize that we are in this together. It needs to be challenging for both but not overpowering for one. There will always be a FOTM for each, but those templates do nothing but point out imbalance and cause additional nerfs. The two professions need to work together to resolve these issues instead of posting things like "Hahaha you got Owned by the Dev's!", because believe me, the bat always comes swinging the other direction too.

I don't want to see them introduce the Squad Leader revamp only to nerf it due to BH/Jedi stuff. I don't want BH nerfed. I don't want Jedi nerfed. I want strong versatile BH'ers with any number of secondary professions. I want Jedi with different mixes of their styles not just MDef/MSabers. More importantly I don't want to see anymore professions getting dragged into this kicking and screaming.

I don't have any solutions. I don't know what it's going to take for people to get it through their thick skulls that Bounty Hunters and Jedi as PLAYERS not professions need to stop this idiocey and realize that we need to come up with a system that is mutually benificial before it's too late. These types of imbalances could be the end of the player bounty system altogether which I believe would be a great disservice to this game and our communities.

I know no fear, but rather I instil it in my enemies. I am the destroyer of worlds.
I know the power of the Dark Side. I am the fire of hate.
All the Universe bows before me, I pledge myself to the Darkness.
For I have found true life, in the death of the light.

That about sums it up.

Jedi and Bounty Hunters do NOT form a symbiotic relationship. One does not NEED the other. That is rquired by the definition:

sym·bi·o·sis :

1 : the living together in more or less intimate association or close union of two dissimilar organisms
2 : the intimate living together of two dissimilar organisms in a mutually beneficial relationship; especially : MUTUALISM
3 : a cooperative relationship (as between two persons or groups)

I agree with the underlying premise you have been suggestingin a few posts ona large scale. Nerfing of professionswill eventuallylead to your favorite prof and special. No prof combo or template will dominate in every situation and circumstance. The key is to know your own prof and that of your foe. Adjust and adapt best you can. Sometimes you are going to lose and some profs|templates will be harder to overcome based on your build|choices.

The more "balanced" profs become the more they become generic and flavorless.I'd rather real strengths and weaknesses.

Systematically nerfing all classes down to suck through whining and sniveling is not an acceptable answer.
