Thread: Are the Accuracy and Speed Mods Worth It?

I've been a bounty hunter for quite a while now, and when I created the character I felt it was best to augment my skills with Carbineer. I liked the specials, crowd control and potential to lay down some substantial damage. In the end, I ground out Master Marksman, MBH, Master Carbs, and I took 3xxx Rifleman. This character has worked quite well for me against NPC Elite marks, with some nice stims and good food. I don't really do Jedi missions now but I may in the future.

On to the question...

I Started a new character and wanted to try out a new template, so I did Master Pistoleer, Master BH, and 4xxx Combat medic. The healing ability with CM has been crucial for keeping my character alive during the longer fights, but the character doesn't deal out as much damage.

So the question is, do the General Speed and General Accuracy mods provided with rifleman outweigh healing, or is it just overkill? I am considering transitioning my rifleman points into CM on the other character, but I don't want to spend 30 minutes killing an elite mark when I can just lay down massive damage and do it in 5 now. How do the accuracy/speed mods translate in the fight? I did a search but I couldn't find a formula that would give me a clear answer.

Thanks!

You're not doing enough damage because you are a pistoleer...go carbs or rifles

switch from CM 4000 to CM 0400, buy a crate of Citros Snowcake and a piece ofhealing efficiency BE clothing. Your heals will be just as good as CM 4000, and you will also get fire and poison.

Umm, that Snowcake is pretty filling. I'd stick with some enhancers and a surgical droid. My heals are beautiful.

ok, first off, thanks for the replies, i appreciate the help.

Secondly, let me clarify a couple of things:

I have TWO characters, one has no med skills at all, all my points went into weapon bonuses. The other character has 4xxx CM.

What i am trying to determine is if its 'worth it' to put allllllll the points in combat trees. In particular, I'm trying to find out how the numbers equate in the game. for example, if one character has a general accuracy mod of +210, and one has +170, how much more of a chance does the 210 have of hitting? Since 210 is around 20% greater, does it really mean a 20% increase in hit chances??

Im MBH/MCM and Rifles 4/0/0/0 and let me say the change from 0/0/0/4 to 4/0/0/0 has been huge!!!! so Id say yes the Accuracy is well worth it---I am just now getting tapes to go with it...currently Im 95 speed and 234 Accuracy

Actually, accuracy affects damage too, so if you go for a real high accuracy you will only do min damage against MDefs and the like...whereas if you have a low accuracy you can expect to do min damage against more of your marks. Both accuracy and speed play a huge role in your DPS. I'd suggest you play around with the damage calculator that was posted on these boards not too long ago (sorry don't remember who to credit this to):

http://www.freewebs.com/staveeno/SWG%20Calculators.xls

(sorry no clicky)

You can even simulate going up against different Jedi templates by using a character builder to get defense mods and plugging that into the spreadsheet.

Playing with the numbers here will give you a good idea of the numerical differences in all-combat vs. some combat skills, then you can compare that vs. the less quantifiable benefits of other support professions like CM etc.

THANK YOU ANIMAL!

That is exactly what i was looking for. I downloaded the calculator and checked out a few things; allow me to share what I discovered.

My Current Template:

Master Bounty Hunter

Master Carbineer

Master Marksman

3xxx Rifleman

This gives you +210 to general accuracy and +70 to general speed. I'm just doing a basic comparison, so don't start complaining about numbers yet.

With a +210 accuracy bonus, using a weapon with a min damage of 419 and a max of 901 and 80 elemental damage(about what my sliced proton has)this will a hit landing 743 damage against a level 80 character, with a 0 armor rating.

With an accuracy of +70, this will drop the speed on a weapon with a speed of 1.9 to 1.303.

If I switch my template to:

Master Bounty Hunter

Master Carbineer

4xxx Combat Medic

I will have +160 general accuracy and +55 general speed.

Using the same weapon stats as above, the lower accuracy modifier will drop the damage from 807, to 791. This is a difference of 1.98%. The speed modifier of +55 will give me a modified speed of 1.38, a difference of .07.

When you look at the numbers in this format, it seems pretty clear to me that combat medics have the upper hand.

Let's use the example of an elite mark with a HAM of 30,000. If the full combat template is doing about 2% more damage, and all other things are equal, he will kill the mark 2% faster. That 2% equates to roughly 600 ham points. 600 HAM points is less than one hit.

I am fully aware that these numbers are not to be held as gospel. There are plenty of other things to consider, target level, armor ratings, target defenses etc. However, this should give you an idea of the baseline.

For me, it will be 100% worth it to shift rifleman into combat medic, and dump master marksman. The modifiers seem big when you look at them on the skill sheets, but the real world percentages tell a different story. I don't mind taking a 1.9% damage cut if it will keep me standing.

Thanks again Animal!

No, they aren't. In fact, you should just drop Bounty Hunter all together.
