Thread: Some ideas concerning BH, Jedi, and Smuggler

Myself and a coworker were discussing some of the issues we read about here on the forums, and we came up with some ideas on how to improve some of the content. I am relatively new to the game, I started playing a month or so before the CU, so I will be the first to say that I don’t know everything, and possibly these ideas have already been brought up by someone else. I would appreciate some feedback on these ideas, positive or negative.

The specific issues we were discussing were the jedi population, BH vs Jedi combat, and the role of Smugglers. Some of our ideas are rather severe, and will probably draw a lot of flaming. As the game stands now, Jedi and BH profs are the most powerful in game. And with absolute power, comes the absolute responsibility to wield that power in a wise manner.

So what my partner and I came up with was the following. Please read all the points below before forming an opinion, as they all tie together:

Increase player bounty payouts significantly, like in the 10 to 20 mil range. As well as the XP earned for completing the mission.

Do away with NPC Spynet operatives. All BH’s tracking a mark would have to contact a player smuggler to get information on who and where his mark is. This would be set similar to some of the Force Sensitive quests, were you have to wait a day or two while the smuggler makes use of his underworld connections to find any info on the mark. This process could take a couple days, and require talking to one or more smugglers to gather all the information required.

During the process of gathering info for the BH, the Smuggler may also uncover the fact of other BH’s currently hunting his mark, and offer information to the BH on who his competition is. Of course, the price for this info would be at the discretion of the smuggler.

The BH, once identities are obtained, can engage not only his original mark, but any BH that he discovers is hunting his mark as well, with the losing BH failing his mission.

Also, BH’s observed in engaging marks would aquire visibility similar to the way Jedi do. Exposing yourself as a BH scum to the open populace puts you at risk of being hunted by other BH as well.

I think that there should be a significant penalty to both the Jedi and the BH for losing in combat, something in order of being reduced to initiate/novice, however I have a feeling most people would revolt if SOE ever implemented that. To me, to have an “uber” character, should also have an “uber” consequence should you misuse the characters powers. One of the aspects I loved about Ultima Online was if you were a dumbass, and went out into the wilds with your best armor, weapons, every red cent you owned, and the keys to your house and got pk’d…….you lost everything you owned. Period. In light of all the Jedi and BH’s swarming the game, lets make things interesting and raise the stakes on showing off those skills. I think it would cause people to think twice about flashing that saber or scatter around, and play the roles of their toons as the roles were meant to be portrayed in the movies.

And before anyone asks…yes I have a Master BH toon, and I am currently grinding through the village. And yes I would be willing to pay the price of my foolishness under my own ideas. To me, the spice in a game is deciding to do something, and can I live with the consequence if I lose.

You're forgetting about the DE. It can be reasonably inferred that droid engineers make a large portion of their profit by selling arakyds and seekers. Where would they fit in to this scheme?

The only way to solve any problem is to take into account how it will affect everyone.

Yeah you're right about that....I wish the developers thought about that too.

take one novice jedi with nothing to lose...1bh friend..

10-20 million credits per kill... Hell as a jedi I would let my self be killed for 10 mil if I had very little exp to lose.

Unfortunately, they'd have to reimplement permadeath (or loss of all force-sensitive status) to balance out that kind of system. Can you imagine having to start the village all over again due to one LD death?
