Thread: Novice BH Mission Difficulty

I'd like to see this added to the BH issues list. It's not whining about Jedi missions, so I'm not sure how much steam this will gather, but here it is:

I've tried to make two BH characters recently. At Novice BH with some other skills, they're CL19 - 21 when they train Novice BH. Excitedly, I head to a mission terminal (tried Corenet, Eisley, Kaadara and Bestine so far), and find the lowest Mission Difficulty I can find (15 - 18) and in each case the mark has been somewhere between CL54 and 60-something.

I tried to take down the CL54 by trying to leg shot, burst run, and otherwise keep out of his range, but once he got in range it was a one-hit incap for him (net 1400 damage). I could have gotten a group together to kill the mark, but that doesn't seem very BH like to me. Forming a gank squad for every mark just doesn't fit the role as I see it.

The realissue I'd like to see addressed here is making BH fun. Waiting to master a profession before the fun starts doesn't sound very appealing to me, and is one of the biggest turn-offs I've experienced in SWG. It's like mastering a crafting professions before you can start to sell anything that anyone wants.

It's a shame to have to master some other elite/hybrid combat profession before you can start acting like a BH (or similary, grinding to BH0444 before taking a first BH mission isjust plain stupid). Why should any profession have to wait until master (or near-master) before you start having fun? I can't see it being either difficult or game balance changing if BH mission NPCs existed at lower CLs for the Novice BHs to learn the trade (instead of spending all their time learning how to kill 100000 dantooine Bols). BH 0444 and just taking their first mission, and learning how to talk to spynet ops and informants is just plain silly.

Itgoteasier for me when I trained my combat first, when my level was like 50+ I was getting level 30 and 40 marks, even though the payout was high and mission lev was 60 or so. lol

"When Sony and Lucas set out, we said, 'How can we do this and not make another EQ?' We didn't want it to be all about Luke, or combat, or lock our players into a class. So we created a system that would allow players to switch professions during the game, and there would be a lot of gameplay around making that change. If you want to go from architect to scout we've created a system to make that happen." - Julio Torres

I did BH Investigation at one time (switched to something completely different) and was annoyed that I couldn't get any Weapon XP at the same time myself.

...has mastered the Pilot profession

This is fixed in publish 20. The BH mission difficulty number will now match the level of the NPC you have to kill.

Sorry for replying to my own thread, but that just proves/illustrates the issue. Grinding to master a non-BH profession before you can start taking actual BH missions (that are *too* easy at that point for the player in question) is poor game design. The solution I propose is to provide BH missions off of the terminals (maybe only in the starter cities or maybe in all cities, doesn't matter to me) that a Novice BH can actually complete.

Did you reply before reading my response?

Yes, but after reading your response, I still have a question...

"This is fixed in publish 20. The BH mission difficulty number will now match the level of the NPC you have to kill."

Does this mean that my novice BHs will now see mission difficulties of 54+ or does it mean that there will be missions for Novice BH that are more closely inline with a Novice BH CL (about CL18-21)?

I haven't done NPC missions since the CU, and I would have been MBH anyways (was pre-CU), so I wouldn't have gotten the same missions that only a Novice BH does.

Presumably, the lowest-level missions will be the same level as they are now (15 - 25), and the NPC's level will now match the mission level. However, you'd have to ask someone on TC who has actually played with it.
