Thread: Changing from Melee to Ranged (specifically BH)

Wonder if anyone can help, have been melee since I first started on Corbantis, MSwords / MDoc pre CU andMPike /TKM / Novice Doc (going 4xxx) Post CU

Am currently doing the FS quests so I can get a 2nd character (and maybe go Jedi in the future).

BH really appeals to me, can go hunting Jedi (eventually) whilst fast XP caps thats are much higher conversions than my current.

MBH / MRifles seems like a good choice, its just that I'm almost full template Melee and changing would involve a lot of time dedicated to changing, plus I'd have to almost relearn how to play as a ranged. Just want to know if its worth it and are there any best ways to go about it? I'd probably drop Pikes first, keeping TKM for the defence and innate armour until I need to drop that.

Any advice would be most appreciated...

I just recently started to go back to Bounty Hunterafter givingmelee a try for a while. Like you, I was a Master Pikeman, TKM, Master Brawler and some other stuff.

Since you will not be able to use any of your skill boxes on your way to Bounty Hunter, expect to drop quite a lot character level wise. I was down to CL 43 at times but I guess I dropped my skills in the wrong order.

Keeping TKM as long as you can is an excellent idea and I would highly recommend you finish Rifleman first, it will make Bounty Hunter a lot easier. While hunting, you can also go up the Exploration tree which will be done fairly fast.

Also, keeping some medic skills will come in very handy. I have never been much of a medic but only recently picked up some of Combat Medic and would not want to miss it now ... at the latest when you run into your first 'chevroned' mark you will love your healing skills.

I hope I could help a bit ...

Thanks for the advice bud! That was how I was thinking of going about it. Just gonna hurt me dropping hella Pike skills to get Novice Marksman! It'll be worth it in the end though.

Oh, and those chevroned marks? What are they about? I've asked a few people when I've seen them, but no-one seems to know.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, I'm currently grinding using a Laser Rifle with Base DPS of about 300. Seems to be going well as I'm at 4033 already Rifleman. As soon as I get Master or 4444 I'm going to start BH, and when it is the right time I'll go CM too. Final template should be roughly MBH, MRifles and whatever CM I can get. Hows that sound?

MBH, MRifles and some CM is the current favor of the month and it#s working nicely. I think most pick up CM 4000 for the heals although I am tempted to give it up in exchange for some skill enhancing tapes.

I do PvE mostly with my TKM/Master Doc friend and get along perfectly with my template (same as above). You will enjoy it!!

While going back to ranged, I also picked up all of marksman on the way (except for master). Since you will need to train all three, rifles, pistols, and carbines, the extra speed and accuracy from marksmanshould come in handy.

Imastered rifleman before I even started with carbines/pistols ... you will be pretty low level and not be able to use any good carbines and pistols anyway. Get yourself a light laser rifle until you reach master and then see if you can get your hands on an advanced.

As for investigation, try to get enough xp to cover the first 2 boxes in one shot, it will save you a lot of time and money because at investigation 1 you will need an awful lot of droids.

The chevroned marks are the ones that have 1 or 2 chevrons attached to their name, they have more health than regular marks. About 16k for a single and over 30k for a double chevron mark. They can be quite hard to kill but with some medical skills you can bag them quite easily.

Master Rifleman and 0001 Bounty Hunter as of last night, I've not had this much fun for a good while!! Won't take me long to get all teh weapons XP I need for BH, then its just a case of Investigation - which I can start when I'm level 80 again. Should be all good for the next phase shift, so I'll see how different it is doing FS quests ranged.

mmmm, try MBH, MCarbs, 3/x/x/1 CM. Best CM snare de-buff, good damage, best special combo in game/ legshot + adv critical...

And the charge shot animation rocks

I know about the Jedi unlock, was thinking that when I get padawan I can create an alt and probably go BH with them. But until that time I can get some experience "dealing" with jedi. It'll be a fun and refreshing way to get all the boxes for FS, better than cap-convert-rinse-repeat anyway.
