Thread: A Jedi Friendly World
A Jedi Friendly World
It seems that a vast majority of Jedi here a striving more and more for this cause. A galaxy where Jedi can live and grind without suffering the perils of Bounty Hunters out to grief them or Bounty Hunters just out to make money from their death.
DarkImitation's thread about "BH vs Jedi: risk vs reward: A balanced discussion" was a good idea. While I don't think at all deserves merit. The focus has been completely shifted it seems. Why the need for Bounty Hunters and Jedi to be honorable and friendly to each other. I think this only grazes the surface.
In the beginning the devs said "Let there be Jedi." And so it came to pass. The devs said "Let them be rare and mysterious" and so it was, for a short time.
"Let there be a harsh penalty for dying as a Jedi" and it was to be, however it never came to pass.
I remember the first time I ever saw a Jedi, I was so amazed. I thought to myself, "wow, it's going to be a while before I see that again. He must be really tough!" And they were tough, and it was a long time before I saw it again. I never hunted Jedi pre-cu. I missed a lot of months due to work and travel, I came back and it was a whole new game. Post CU.
Now, Jedi populations are thriving and growing faster than anyone would have imagined. Everyone is on the road to Force sensitivity it seems. But still we have threads like the ones mentioned above.
Like I said, a good idea, but why? Has it ever been mentioned that Bounty Hunters would be a rarity, or anything great for that matter. Back then Bounty Hunters were Bounty Hunters because it was just a fun choice for them. If you really liked walking for thousands of meters to find your marks and only to get there after the long trip to find nothing. The grind for the inv xp was hard. But you gained nothing more from being a Master Bounty Hunter back then. Only a title. I would see MBH's getting owned by everything under the sun back then too. A broken set of skills with no meaning. I digress from my original point.
Is Bounty Hunter population really a problem due to not being penalized? There is, I admit, a dazzle to the profession now, but few are effective hunters when it comes to Jedi. Why the need to penalize a profession like this?
In my personal opinion a Full Temp Jedi should be 3-5 times as powerful as any player. It should take more than one Bounty Hunter to take them on. I would be all for this if they were as rare as they were suppose to be. I guarantee you, you'd also see less BH's. But there should also be a lot of different tools at the disposal of BH's, but nothing to make him a PVP god. Say for instance if you were in good standing with the Empire you could check out several types of pets from them to ambush Jedi, with limitations of course. This would cause Jedi to really keep a lid on who they really were. Couple that with perma-death and we are back in business. Jedi in this period were never meant to be the glamourous thing you see now. BH's could be as common as a crafter but without true skill and true guts, why would he take on a Jedi?
I have a friend who is Jedi(full temp). I asked him how many times he got taken out by a BH, and he replied "never!" I said, "wow, you must be really good then!" and he said "no, I just never got on the terms." See, he had the right idea!
But we still have people pushing for a society that is backwards. I wouldn't mind being penalized or hunted. But BH's aren't the real issue. It seems Jedi only want BH's to be further deterred from hunting them. But why? As it is, a BH should never give up on a mark that runs, even if he runs because there is no incentive for him to fight. They run because they were already beaten. But BH's give up because, well it's too time consuming. Believe me I know how time consuming it can be! Force Cloak, Force Run..there is always a chance to take them. You just have to wait.
I just want to say, I'm not at all saying DarkImitation had a bad idea, it was a good job he did coming up with an idea like that. If you haven't come up with an idea and had the guts to post it to find out what everyone will say, then don't even try to sit there and judge or talk trash. I just think it is a bit backwards. But I expect it. Look at the way everything is heading. Jedi are as common as Pikets.
I don't really think this can at all be fixed. Maybe if the devs decide to reinstate perma-death and then give a penalty for failed bounties this would work. I know I would definitely be studying my opponent for a long time before deciding to take a Jedi then.
