Thread: Advice on PuP

Only recently started hunting Jedi and, although I have gotten much better and learned much, I have a question for experienced BHs.

I am using a damage and SAC capped Mk. 2 carbine. My problem seems to be doing enough damage to force the Jedi to heal frequently (averaging 300 damage against MDs and 500-600 against non).

In your opinion which would help more? The SAC PuP i usually use, drops my SAC to 53. Or a damage PuP for the shorter fights?

Try both. It's all personal preference. Both have their advantages

I used only SAC pups for a long time. I use dmg pups now in large scale pvp and hunting Jedi. Most of my Jedi fights aren't nearly as long or drawn out anymore.

You just have to manage your action a bit better. Use ranged shot to let your action regen, then lay into them with everything you've got. Just make sure you've always got enough action to do a kd recovery...

You can't go wrong with the SAC powerup. You will needit for most fights.

What I do in a fight with a defender Jediis use two weapons. One with a SAC pup and one with a speed pup. I use the SAC weapon for most of the fight. If my action gets low I switch to the speed pup weapon and use rangedshot until my action regens. Also use the speed pup weapon if you need to lay on some quick damage to the target.

For the quicker fights just use a speed pup weapon.

On the other hand, I have my weapon stats dialed so I don't even use a pup. With food, I never run out of action or mind. It seems to be a wash when I throw a pup on or it isn't worth the negative impact on one of the stats. I'm happy without using one at all.

theres a guy on our server selling "balanced" damage pups which are really nice, basically they only give you about 28% damage increase but the speed decrease is only about 1% which means you are getting a much higher dps. I always use these unless im shafted for action then i would go for the sac ones. It all depends how long you think the fight is going to be.

dmg pup (if sac capped I would say go speed)

do you shots like this

ranged - special 1 - ranged -special 2 - repeat.

With every other shot ranged you donot have to worry about your sac ... and can kick serious damage

As someone who has been making powerups for a long time and now getting into being a BH.....will add my comments.

If your a carbine user and damage and SAC capped I think the best choice for a pup is a damage one.

My reasoning. A SAC cap on carbine (what, 73?) gives you plenty of room to manage your action bar. I assume your taking something for a +200 to Action regen before fighting and also hitting a Neutron Pixie ahead of time as well? This should keep your action bar up enough for a drawn out battle. The damage pup will not only increase your damage output per shot but drop your speed a bit....again, having a positive impact on your action issues. I make a +34.47% Damage Mod powerup with a hit of +7.95% to speed. Yes, it slows you down....but to me with action issues this is a good thing. If you have decent min damage on your carbine this 34% damage boost can really be a large value (nearly 200 pts).

SAC pups? I make them (-29.55% SAC reduction/-9 Accuracy) and I think the cost to accuracy on mine are as good as anyones....yet your still taking a -9 accuracy hit. Against master defenders you need all the accuracy help you can get, not a mod to send you backward in that area.

The other options are speed pups. I would only suggest this route if 1) you think the fight will be short; 2) you feel you have enough shots that will toss states on the jedi (dizzy, stun, blind, kd, etc..) that having extra speed for more shot availability is a better option. But a speed pup of -34.47% (what I make) is brutal on the action bar plus even with my highly expermented pups the accuracy hit is -26.

You can consider balance pups. I make these to order for folks.......but so far I have felt the damage pups are a better fit since the speed reduction actually helps to manage the action bar. In terms of sales....initially a lot of speed sales...as everyone like the huge MDPS that a speed pup will give you....but soon my damage pup sales climbed and now I would say i have a sales balance of about 45% damage pups, 35% SAC pups, 20% speed pups.

Try out some different options and see what works best for you. Which foods you use are key also. I assume most folks are using DP with a +200 range accuracy bonus to start most fights against high level Jedi? As a master chef also on my alt I feel I have a good handle on foods as well......crispic with a +40 ranged accuracy is a must but for the short term start of a fight that +200 might really make a difference.

As for food, here is my list of what I use.

Before the mission I pop, Spiced Tea, Blob Candy, Bofa Treat. I prefer to keep my stomach open for Deuterim Pyro, Exo-Protein Wafersand Ruby Bliel.

During the mission I will usually use Pikatta, Booster Blue (love that mind regen). If need be i carry Mando Wine, Parwan, and Won Wons.

Any other advice on foods? I've been taking my lumps and getting better with each mission, just trying to get over the hump.

The only way that i can think that I intentionally gimp myself is my armor. I use 6125 Energy Resist ADK'd BH Armor. I know not the best for Jedi marks but still love it

I think you have most of the main key food covered. A lot depends on your template obviously. I know the Booster Blue is negative -20% on either health regen or action regen, correct? I would be cautious with that. I like the Neutron for the + all around except for mind. If I take some spiced tea, around +185 mind regen for an hour, that stomach fill can be gone while the food is still working and still give me the bonus, basically offsetting the negative from the Neutron. If your a major healer, like CM, then I realize the mind is an issue....but are you ever waiting on your mind or more on your action bar? Consider this when preping for food.

I like the Crispic for the +40 accuracy. I only have 0040 in medic so I need to keep the stomach drink fill open for as much Ruby as possible. I have made some 15 fill Ruby so that helps be get as many uses as possible in for healing. The Pikatta is nice also. I use a +55 pikatta version for around 20 min so it's lasts for the whole fight. How good are your exo-protein wafers? I don't even make them any longer as the duration is so short...not sure it's worth the stomach fill. Synthsteak can help in a pinch...I normally keep it as a backup if things get tough.....m version is +45% damage mitigation for 35 seconds...it's over with pretty quick but sometimes it's just enough to let me recover.

You didn't mention anywhere about wearing a PSG. A personal sheild generator (PSG) can help with the energy on your armor. I think the PSG's I use are around 2,300 energy with a 68 or so regen.....so it certainly can help. I also have a Imp PSG I normally equip for tough fights...it has the +10 mods on it. Not something you want to burn through with normal fighting but good for special cases......like specific jedi hunting.
