I'm a Ranger / Creature Handler, and I have points left over for a small bit of weapon skills. So, I originally went for Pistoleer - my creature hits health mostly, and the other HAM bars secondly. However, I'm starting to consider Carbineer instead. SO! I need help deciding!

Pistols offer Body shots, veryfast speeds (Yet lower damage on the whole), and higher defense, but they really lack in armor peircing.

Carbines offer Action-pool shots (Legshots I think), Higher damage (But lower speeds), but they have more AP, including the Laser Carbine (Which is Armor Peircing 2).

Defense isn't a REALLY huge issue, since my pets tank for me most of the time, meaning the melee bonus to Pistols isn't as big.

Could you guys give me some advice as to which you would choose in my position?

Go with the pistol. If creatures are doing the majority of the fighting, you should focus on the same HAM bar as they do. Plus pistol will give you health bleeds, very low HAM costs with a good scout blaster, and fast speeds, allowing you to use bodyshot every second. Pistols also seem to have much better accuracy at lower levels then carbines, especially when moving.

For whatever reason, SoE has pretty much decided that all weapons are basicly the same (DPS wise at least). To be honest, I don't think DPS actual works, I think damage is all based on MAx / Min damage of the weapon and speed difference are so minimal that it doesn't really get noticed.

As a result, Rifles hit for more damage then Carbines and Carbines more then pistols because they have higher MIN and MAX damage stats. The 1 second speed differnce is so minor that I doubt you would ever actually notice a difference.

Pistols have some nice states. Intimidate shot is nice as is quickdraw and disarming shot. You do have to know how to fight to use pistols, you have to adapt to situations and you have to put yourself within a jedis range.

You get higher defenses with pistol and root is very nice.

As an MBH Mpistoleer I still carry a rifle...after all I can still fire one. When I need to recover in a fight I root and drop back to rifle range.

The reason is a post I already made ... uberest weapon...

PvP runs off min damage... Min damage on pistols is not that good (srry all pistols)

I've noticed that if you takethe bestElite or E2 MKII carbine with the dmg cap, speed, low SAC and all and compare it to a Featherweight FWG5 I don't really see THAT much of a difference as far the stats is concerned. This might be a stupid question but can anyone tell me a good reason to change from using carbines over pistols or vice versa. I'm trying to do some comparisons and see which actually does better damage.

Why do you guys use carbines or pistols?
