Thread: how can u tell if someone is using a 3rd party program?
no he didnt have any buffs, i checked for that. it was so odd. the gank squad happened amonth or soago, that just grouped on weekends to fight really hard jedi knights., i am not going to report em or nothing unless i knew what exactly i should be looking for as proof. heis so fast and i thought he did like 3 attacks in one second. it was odd. the other thing i forgot to mention was i was warping around during the fight and i wasnt even moving. it was weird.
i killed 6 jedi on sunday, and i think outa the 20 or so jedi i hunted were long battles ending with my death, the odds arent in my favor and im not complaining about that. This particular jedi i have not a clue on how he does it, even moves when rooted. atleast from what i can tell from him and me warping all over the place.
if i get a seeker report and his name comes up ill just abort. i sent mail to my bh guildmates and if they should get his mission that they should see if they experience the same thing.
This isnt a flame on someone or anything, i have heard about 3rd party hacks for swg but i have no idea what they do or how u can tell if a player is running one.
This jedi is innocent until proven guilty, so hats off to em for being so damn good unless i hear from others that he really is using some 3rd party hack.
He has some legitimate concerns. Notice he didn't accuse anyone of exploiting, but losing a 4-on-1 is a rare thing--I've lost a 4-on-1, but it was the result of a masterful job by the Jedi and took a LONG time.
There are two known exploits Jedi are using which might account for this:
1) Two attacks at once, through some combination of keys
2) Overloaded sabers, which do about double normal damage
Thanks to a few conscientious Jedi such as Mindspat for bringing these to our attention. If you suspect either one of these, check your combat log (with time stamps on). Damage in the 1800+ range probably indicates an exploited saber; two attacks in one second indicate the double-attack exploit. Combine them, and you're dead before you even see him draw his saber on your screen.
There was also the issue a few months back of saber animations/sound effects knocking people offline in certain conditions; I find I usually have 4-6 second combat lag against Jedi, especially after a KD move, and have very low latency the rest of the time. "Saber lag" caused by animations and sound may have contributed aswell, even on a good computer.
Vecasius wrote:The way you describe it sounds like the Jedi you been fighting might be a "speedhacker". Its some type of 3rd party downloadable program that speeds up all your ingame actions. I dont know how its used myself (Because im not a dirty, filthy, scumsucking cheater) but iv had friends who used when traveling, grinding etc just to speed things up a bit.
Id say report him. If your lucky he might get investigated by SOE and if they find that he is indeed running a 3rd party program he will be banned.Im not taking sides here. I have 2 jedi chars myself. But i despise a speedhacker wich ever "side" he/she might be on,"I support boiling speedhackers in hot liquid monkeypoo untill they are dead, dead, dead"
What he said - report him. You dont have any means to get rock-solid proof of another player using a speed hack program, but reporting him doesnt hurt him if he didnt do anything wrong. I usually am not for reporting without having solid proof, but in the case of 3rd party programs you cannot get that proof by yourself.
Getting severe lag can be an indication of your opponent using speed hacks, especially since youre only getting it facing that certain player if I understood you right.
If SOE chooses to investigate the matter and finds out he is not using a speed hack the issue is dead, if he indeed is proven to be exploiting the issue will be resolved also.
Hit Ctrl-Shift-G ingame. You will get a network window that is probably different than the one you regularly use.
On one of the lines near the bottom, you will see a statistic that alternates between 100-6000. When you are extremely laggy or hit lag spikes, you will see this number go up to 5000-6000 for a moment or two, but it will settle back down.
Some players use 3rd party packet dumping programs. If you suspect a player of using it, here is how you tell. Walk up close to them, and if they are using it, you will notice this number at a constant 5000-6000, withno variation as long as you maintain the same distance between them.As you gain distancefrom them, you should notice the number slowly start to decrease, but the key factor is noticing that this number remains a constant if you stand still next to them and decreases as you move away from them.
You might contact a CSR to explain the situation if you can catch suspect players doing it. Most CSR's need to be present at the moment stuff like this happens. If you want someone banned for speedhacking and packet dumping, you gotta have a CSR witness it.
My other word of advice would be to CRANK ALL of your video settings down and disable your sound. Sound takes a huge chunk out of your performance. Also, go into Game Options in the Gamepad where you type in your Name/Password to play. Go into graphics options and disable most of that stuff. Go into Advanced and disable world preloading, enable Use low detail characters, and most everything else you think would also help.
Another command that might help is /flushg fullr. This will help with lag.
