0400 carbineer ...leg shot + critical shot is pretty damaging but the real baby is cripple shot ....if you have electrolyte drain in CM you can keep your jedi snared the entire fight

RIFLES!

Anything else and you will get slaughtered. Whatever you do aviod Pistols! Carbines are fine, but you have very little wiggle room to stay outside Jedi Range.

^ I use pistols, and am quite successful. Of course the drawbacks are 1) you are usually in or close to their range and 2) not as good with damage dealing. But you can pick up general speed and accuracy tapes and effectively use a nice adv. laser rifle as well as a pistol. For pistols I keep three different types handy: 1) a high damage-oriented High cap. scatter; 2) a low SAC-oriented high cap. scatter; and 3) a higher-end scatter with high damage and low SAC. I also have several DL44 XT pistols handy if energy damage seems more effective.

All in all going pistols is not perfect, but I'd advocate it.

I went MBH/MCM/Pistoleer 0-1-0-3, giving me both Improved Stopping Shot and Burst Shot (an area stun). I considered adding Medic x-x-2-x (better Healing efficiency) or Pistoleer x-x-x-4 (improved Fan Shot, plus a bit of extra defense), but opted for adding two special shots, particularly since rumor has it that Stun effects on regens is supposedly going to be fixed with Pub. 21. But as I like to say at every opportunity, the option you choose depends on your play style. Go for the result you enjoy most, then maximize your skill with the tools you choose.

I don't think dewbacks are a relevent comparison. If you are going to PvP as part of your template, you are handicaping yourself if you are using a pistol. PvE doesn't matter, but you will have much more success in either arena with a rifle then with a pistol becaunse a good portion of the NPCs cannot attack over 50m, thuse you can stay outside thier attack ranged.
