Thread: Template Question (No FS Skills?)
FS aren't bad per say, but to most of us, they equate to not having enough SP to make our templates whole. For instance a 4444 Rifleman is just not as good as a Master. The same with every template. Though most of us do have FS skills, we just do not advertise it. The majority of templates do allow at least 3 or 4 extra SPs avail:
MBH+1RangedMaster+4xxxCM = 3 extra SP
MBH+MCM+1LineRanged = 3 Extra SP
MBH+MDoc+1LineRanged = 3 Extra SP
Some leave 4 open, some of the more "exotic" templates leave none open.
No certarinly not. The FS skills are nice, but not as nice as AA's and CA's. You can get MUCH better results with them and at no cost to your SPs too.
For instance, buying a +16 melee/ranged defense shirt with 4 sockets open for speed/accuracy is a much better alternative than spending at least 12 SPs for the same result.
Let me give an example to illustrate the kind of dilemma I am toying with:
Take one of the more popular templates (with carbine): MBH, MCarbine, 4000 CM, 0300 FS Combat Prowess (+9 speed). That gives the BH:
Carbine Accuracy 65
G. Ranged Accuracy 160
Carbine Speed 50
G. Ranged Speed 64
Carbine Defense 40
Melee Defense 165
Ranged Defense 190
Healing Efficiency 65
G. Ranged Accuracy 160
Carbine Speed 50
G. Ranged Speed 67
Carbine Defense 40
Melee Defense 175
Ranged Defense 205
Healing Efficiency 25
Using the latter template, you get +3 Speed, +10 Melee Defense, and +15 Ranged Defense. However, you also lose +40 Healing Efficiency and Advanced Bacta Toss (you get only Improved Bacta Toss).
The tradeoff would be healing ability for some additional defense. I don't know how much +40 efficiency increases heals, or how much a decrease of +10/15 defense matters, and I guess that is what I am really asking...

Playing devil's advocate though, you could also buy a +16 melee/ranged defense shirt to wear WITH the +20 melee/ranged refense you get for 8SP from the FS lines and have a +36 point increase.
Wearing a +16 melee/ranged defense shirt also prevents you from wearing a +25 healing efficiency shirt, which decreases the effectiveness of your healing.
At least at the moment, I am ignoring shirts because they stack with everything...I will worry about that complication next... ![]()

Ok... so on that note: You obviously can't drop MBH... MRM? Sure... you could drop MRM, and lose Adv Sniper Shot, armor mitgation, defense, speed, etc. Is that worth the added bonus of investing in FS skills? It *could* be, but I suspect not. Try it out and let us know, it's an interesting question though!
