Simply put...How big is the difference in damage? Considering both weapons were stat capped and your mods were capped.

Yeah I'm currently MP 4xxx CM but haven't really started maxing out skill mods yet. I keep hearing how carbines outdamage pistols and was just curious by how much. I understand how the range difference would benefit carbines and if the damage is that much more then I'd likely switch. I like pistols but don't want to start spending countless hours and money maxing it out if its not worth it.

i was a master pistoleer ... and i gave it up ... sac on pistols with decent damage is ususally higher than carbines with the same damage .. plus the carbine CA and AA's are still ( not sure how much longer) cheaper than thepistol ones ..plus the carbine weapons themselves are cheaper ..a carbine which will cost you 1.5 mill is comparable usually in stats and/or effectiveness to a pistol in the 6 to 8 mill range

aside from stopping shot .. i also dont think any of the pistoleers moves hold any real weight .

it is alot easier to find an Uber pistol though - most of tehm only take 1 enhancemnt vs 3 or 4 for a carbine. I have 2 really nice pistols. that 35m range does sux0r though

I agree whole heartedly with this, stopping shot is the most versatile attack that I have in my arsenal. I have used it many times defensively andI have used it many times offensively. It has literally allowed me to get kills I otherwise would not have gotten and get away when I otherwise would not have been able to.

Personally, I spent a LOT of time, effort and credits to become an "A" class MBH/pistoleer. I loved it! Of course, prec-cu, eye-shot with a nice geo FTW! A lot's changed, however. Now we're goin' after one pool-Health. You need something to beat down that health bar quickly, so you're gonna need power. Of course, I've seen scatter pistols with some very decent damage outputs, so that's always one way to go. Rifles, of course, pack the post punch per shot, but they come with higher SAC. You also may want to consider that lightsabers do energy damage. BH comes with Assault armor mitigation and assault armor has the lowest energy resists. Both Pistoleer and Rifleman will allow you to use Recon Armor, offering the highest degree of energy resistance. You may be thinking that with all that said, I've chosen to remain a pistoleer, but you'd be wrong.

Pistols have one very nice ability that I love to use; Stoppingshot. It's absolutely invaluable when fighting a jedi. BUT Pistols have a max range of 35m--within saber range. So if you're using stopping shot to keep a jedi from running from you, it's great. But what if that jedi turns around and comes after you? Stoppingshot FTW again! But only if you can stop him/her, get out of range of the saber damage, and continue to blast at him. Keep him at arm's length while you continue with critical shot. Or one of my favorites: Stop him cold and set your bomb droid after him. Not a lot he can do but watch as his doom trundles up to him with the detonation timer ticking. (Of course, bomb droids don't have much in the way of HAM, so usually one hit with a saber will nullify that, so you'll want to make sure your mark is on his back as well.)

I see carbines as the best all-around ranged weapon type, my self. When hunting jedi (or anything else for the matter) it pays to be versatile. Battle armor will protect from both energy damage and kinetic damage. (Helpful on those trips down into the Ryatt Trail. After all, it's nice to be able to get to your mark with enough health left-over to fight him just in case he isn't AFK). There's a wide variety of new and attractive carbines to be had, just as quest rewards--especially the FOTM proton. I've opted for MBH/MCarbineer+pistols 0003 (for stopping shot). It offers the most versatility imho. decent damage/range/SAC, battle armor mitigation and some very nice specials. I never thought I'd leave Master Pistoleer, but I have. And I'm enjoying it very much.

When discussing damage capability alone it's important to remember a key difference between Carbines and Pistols: the top-of-the-line Carbines are Energy, and the top-of-the-line pistols are Kinetic. That can make a BIG difference depending on your target, and Energy damage can bemitigated by PSGs. I believe a PSG mitigates for 10% or more damage, and subtract 10% from the most damaging Carbine and you get less damage than the best Pistol for a higher SAC cost. If PSGs mitigate more than 10% (which I they might) you're just doing even less damage.

The main benefit with Carbines as a weapon is their range, plain and simple. In Speed and Sac you're better with Pistols, and Damage will break about even assuming double-capped top-shelf weapons.

8% Damage Sliced, 2% Speed Sliced, 2% Crit Sliced Proton Carbine FTW.

Thanks for the replies. Its definitely a hard call just on strategy alone but I'm still curious about pure damage output between the two. If both types were using a double capped weapon would the difference in damage be a lot? Or does the extra range just trump pistols speed and defense anyway?
