im pistol, and only start to handle my skills. It works. As carb or rifle.

you can also change your medics, and switch to CM xxx4 (drain, paralyze,...)

i like rifles, does more damage at a longer range

If your going up against jedi i suggest you keep your current template.
1 you can outheal jedi damage (force will run out)
2 dots seem to be a painfull thing for jedi
3 do good damage (jedi healing takes mind, what i hear 6 heals is a minddrain)

With pistols, you get intimidate and root and some other nifty stuff, but the limited range means the root really doesn't get you out of range of saber throw.

I did rifles for the armor and the extra damage, but I found that I didn't have any opportunity to use most of the abilities. Cover, conceal shot and sniper shot are useful only in very limited circumstances, meaning (In my opinion) wasted skill points.

Right now I'm MBH/ MCarbs / CM 4000, and haven't decided how well I like it yet.
