Thread: A question of Speed
hey there ![]()
2 quick questions - not too sure if this is the right place to ask, but you guys seem to know guns rather well...
wondering about weapon speed..
1 - how does the speed you aquire through your professions affect the speed at which you fire your weapon?..
2 - is there a cap on weapon speed?.. i heard that 1.0 is the cap regardless - so a 1.0 pistol will fire at the same rate whether it's used by a novice marksman or a master pistoleer - is this true?..
thanks muchly if you can help ![]()

I haven't seen a lot of people posting test results confirming the 1.0 cap, but I also haven't seen people claiming to have gotten lower, so I guess that theory stands for now.
That's true that for regular shots, a 1.0 delay weapon will be the same regardless of weapon speed skill, BUT, most folks use special attacks almost all the time. And special attacks have a multiplier for both damage and delay. For example, I think I remember that BS2 is 2.5x damage, and 1.75x delay. So the delay is now 1.7 or 1.8, and your weapon speed skill as a more skilled user would the be able to give you a benefit over an unskilled newbie.
that is of course if weapon speed is factored into the specials and doesn't just modify the base speed of the weapon...
thanks for your answer though ![]()
looks like we have something else that's not yet understood...

I suspect sometime over the course of the next months, more information about this will be released from the Developers and in turn, players will slowly begin to wean off of the speed hype. For now, I'm seeing little reason why anyone would prefer a 1.x speed gun over a 2.x speed gun with higher min/max damage to make the DPS equal. Especially considering it will only lower the condition of your gun at a faster rate, and drain your HAM bars as you're using Special Moves at a heightened pace, regardless of the possibilities of the speed being capped out.
I bet we'll be seeing speed easily capping out in the near future.
((Weapon speed - powerup modification) * Special attack Modifier) - weapon speed skill adjustment
And that whole thing is capped at 1.0.
There are some arguments ongoing though. One is whether the weapon speed skill adjustment is skill / 10 (50 skill = 0.5 reduction in delay), or whether it's a percentage based adjustment. Another ongoing discussion is whether a skill above 100 helps or not. I've seen a couple "it doesn't" posts, and another quite adament "I have it, it does" post.
