hey there

2 quick questions - not too sure if this is the right place to ask, but you guys seem to know guns rather well...

wondering about weapon speed..

1 - how does the speed you aquire through your professions affect the speed at which you fire your weapon?..

2 - is there a cap on weapon speed?.. i heard that 1.0 is the cap regardless - so a 1.0 pistol will fire at the same rate whether it's used by a novice marksman or a master pistoleer - is this true?..

thanks muchly if you can help

There are differing reports. Some claim that weapon speed skill reduces your weapon delay by 0.1 for every 10 pts of speed. Others say it's a percentage change, which obviously can't scale up to 100 skill = 100% reduction in delay.

I haven't seen a lot of people posting test results confirming the 1.0 cap, but I also haven't seen people claiming to have gotten lower, so I guess that theory stands for now.

That's true that for regular shots, a 1.0 delay weapon will be the same regardless of weapon speed skill, BUT, most folks use special attacks almost all the time. And special attacks have a multiplier for both damage and delay. For example, I think I remember that BS2 is 2.5x damage, and 1.75x delay. So the delay is now 1.7 or 1.8, and your weapon speed skill as a more skilled user would the be able to give you a benefit over an unskilled newbie.

that is of course if weapon speed is factored into the specials and doesn't just modify the base speed of the weapon...

thanks for your answer though

looks like we have something else that's not yet understood...

I suspect sometime over the course of the next months, more information about this will be released from the Developers and in turn, players will slowly begin to wean off of the speed hype. For now, I'm seeing little reason why anyone would prefer a 1.x speed gun over a 2.x speed gun with higher min/max damage to make the DPS equal. Especially considering it will only lower the condition of your gun at a faster rate, and drain your HAM bars as you're using Special Moves at a heightened pace, regardless of the possibilities of the speed being capped out.

I bet we'll be seeing speed easily capping out in the near future.

That info I gave about the special attack speed multipliers and how weapon speed skill factors in was from a reported test on these forums. I forget who it was, but they posted some pretty nice data and it looked like a well run test. It showed that your speed skill was applied AFTER the multiplier was applied to your weapons skill. So you're looking at:

((Weapon speed - powerup modification) * Special attack Modifier) - weapon speed skill adjustment

And that whole thing is capped at 1.0.

There are some arguments ongoing though. One is whether the weapon speed skill adjustment is skill / 10 (50 skill = 0.5 reduction in delay), or whether it's a percentage based adjustment. Another ongoing discussion is whether a skill above 100 helps or not. I've seen a couple "it doesn't" posts, and another quite adament "I have it, it does" post.

Nothing. Maybe go up the BH line and pick up better Carbine speed tapes but it is unlikely you will ever out-speed a TKA so to speak. You can't compare professions like this though.Theunfortunate inevitability of every MMORPG is that there willalways be one profession that out classes all others no matter what happens.

A buddy and I went hunting Jantas. We're both Master Doctor / Something. I'm a Master Carbineer and he's a Master TKA.

He's using his bare hands. I'm using a mix; Enhanced E11 1.9 speed 100 - 250 damage, ap1, Speed Sliced Laser 56 - 354, 2.3 speed, and a speed sliced Nym's 2.1 speed. I /examine before I attack and change weapons to take advantage of holes.

He's grabbing aggro and I'm unloading the AOE specials. I quickly notice two things.

1. He's killing them faster than I can gain targeting and fire.

2. He's consistently dps is over me by 5:1

Ok. I figure I'll ditch the AOE and go for targeted attacks. I try FAS1, Cripple, Burst1, Scatter1, everything. Nothing comes close to his DPS. On lairs I found that if I spam Burst1 with the E11 I can hit it 2 times for his 3.

It wasn't that he was doing alot more damage than me, he was simply hitting them much faster than I can. The combat spam was clear on that fact.

Any ideas? (Besides switch to TKA)

My speed is Master Carbineer 65 + clothing mods of +8 for a total of 73.

The only highlight in the evening was when the AOEs grabbed about 10 Janta and as they charged me. I charged them back. It was awesome to see the entire column falldown like bowling pins. Too bad they got up again.

Fellow Bounty hunters

Just a quick question on speed... Im master BH 0002 Doc and 3000 Jedi Enhancer

I use a proton carb with pup with a speed of 1.02 max damage roughly 888

My speed as per character sheet is 84 - from memory

I then buff myself with the Doc Skill +20? from memory

and then I use improved force speed for another +25

My question is...is the additional +25 granted via improved force speed worth it? I mean the speed I have at the moment is awesome I am clicking improvedcritical then ranged then improved critical as quick as I can hit the mouse button. Just wanted some opinions in relation to this, The additional benefits of force run and force supression are very handy as well.

if i dropped jedi altogether that would give me an additional 26 points to put somewhere..... Thoughts?????
