Bleh, now that I've mastered the A-Wing, Advanced X-Wing and Nova Courier, I've decided to go back to my roots and try to put together a worthwhile standard X-Wing. Oh so not fun. No fun at all....
Trying to squeeze a workable engine, decent shield, effective reactor and a trio of weapons (since just two in the wingtips leave too massive a hole in spread coverage), just not a fun job...
So far, the best run's been with the QID, a Mark IV reactor, an Advanced L7 Blaster and a pair of Heavy L5s. Haven't had the chance to PvP in her yet, but damn do I look back and wonder how we Rebels managed with these things for so long.
I'll get the kinks worked out eventually, but damn, it hurts.
There is no such thing as 'mastering' a ship as it implies that you have no room for improvement. I prefer the term 'extremely adept'. However, same here..I've been working on a Standard x-wing for a while and I finally settled on the loadout.
It will be set up for pvp, but it'll still be half decent for pve (hell, I pve in an A-wing so -anything- is good enough for me).
I'm going for lvl 10 engine, lvl 8 reward shield (which I'm still trying to find a pre-re shield below 30k mass to re it with), lvl 7 re'd ion pulse, two lvl 5 re'd weapons. My lvl 10 engine has re'd to 35k mass. I migh thave to swap the lvl 7 blaster for a lvl 6, but on top of that I have chaff, mk I booster, lvl 3 reactor with 14.5k regen and a lvl 4 capacitor.
Thinking about it, I think I'll go with the lvl 6 re'd weapon. I could do with the mass. Basically though, for this project I made lvl 8 shield and lvl 10 engine mandatory. PvP wise, as long as I'm putting out a net total damage of 5k out, it should be fine for seriously hurting people. I have a lvl 6 weapon which puts out 2.6k damage and two lvl 5s at 1.8k so that is 6.2k damage max abouts if I hit someone square on.
I'm not bothering with ordnance because I don't really need it, plus flying steadily for long enough to lock it on isn't somthing I like to do. I guess this x-wing will mainly be for show as I am still hopelessly attatched to my A-wing, but /shrug its giving me somthing to do while I sit here waiting for GCW in space or even more relative to the time frame irl, Publish 24.

Well, by "mastering", I meant I've got those three ships as tightly engineered as I can. I don't win every battle I fight in them, but I've more than established credibility with them.
My L10 engine came in around 42k, so its not going to accomplish much in a stock X-Wing. TheX-Wing I'm working with is 100K, but I've got a 101k sitting in storage, I'll break it out if I end up pulling too much hair.
For a PvP set up, I'll probably stick to crafted guns for high rates of fire, since incredible damage isn't the highest priority. Even if I have to go with a trio of crafted L5s and use WO1 or WO2 to bring them up to spec, I will. The Reactor I, will try dropping to an Type III, and I'll try to fall back to low mass Type III or high mass Type II armor. After the last mass PvP event, I've come to the conclusion that going with forward armor only is only acceptable in duelling situations. In a furball, you WILL get shot in the rear. I would love to slip an IR II launcher in if its possible, forgoing the booster, since they're pretty nonfunctional in a PvP situation. I've never been a speed demon, prefering to outfly, rather than outrun, my opponents.
Ah, fair enough then. Yeh, wierd this. Everyone is suddenly mentioning high refire rate crafted blasters and I am inclined to agree for a three weapon slot ship or even a two weapon slot ship. I think I might go with those too. I might even experiment with a disruptor or ion cannon (whichever is the one with good effectiveness vs. shields) in the central slot too.
As for getting shot in the rear, yeh I can see that happening with an X-wing. They are rather plump ![]()

100K mass is alot, the key to any ship, is re engineering.
Off the top of my head, heres my standard Xwing:
MK III crafted reactor
L2 RE'd capacitor (its like 990 / 40 )
L1 Prenerf DI (ya ya i know)
L8 RE'd QID
L4 RE'd teir mission reward Booster
MK I armor F/b
MK IV crafted shield 1900 F/B
MK III Concussion or MK2IR
Two L7 RE'd Bolt drivers guns
One L6 RE'd gun
Runs EO4, rapid fire, and does good damage. L7 boltdrivers are fast, and do alot more damage then crafted guns.
