Thread: Suggestion regarding Armor

Just a suggestion, and its doubtful, but maybe if it is a 'good' suggestion that others like...a Dev will read this and at least give it some thought.
Pre-CU, SWG had WAY too much armor. Everyone and their brother was running around in armor, almost always heavy composite. I think then, most people agreed that this huge use of armor was pretty un-star-warsy.
I see, after returning to the game Post-CU, they fixed a 'bit' of this by their new scheme for armor. This 'varied' the armor we saw a bit. Players, in general, aren't wearing quite as much armor as before due to the mitigations....and the armor we see is more 'varied'....but...in my humble opinion...there is still WAY too much armor use in the game. It still feels 'un-star-warsy' to me.
So I was thinking of a SIMPLE and EASY modification that the devs might make to 'tweak' this just a bit...reduce the overall armor by a bit....and tweak it a bit to help ensure that the professions that it would be Star-Warsy to WEAR armor might wear it...and those that would be Star-Warsy without armor....might get an advantage for NOT wearing it. This is already done in the game, to an extent...with innate Teras-Kasi armor and innate Jedi armor.
So my idea for a small 'tweak' is as follows:
-Add an innate armor ability for pistoleers. Make it equally beneficial for them to NOT wear armor or to go ahead and wear their recon armor. This gives them a 'choice' of the 'gunslinger' look or the 'armored' look. I know pistoleers that would prefer NOT to wear armor and still be as successful, and I also know pistoleers that enjoy their armor.
This 'tweak' alone would reduce the players wearing armor in the game a tad and players with both types of pistoleer preferences (armor versus non-armor) are happy.
Also....
-The Bounty Hunter profession, is stated in the design FAQ's and such, that their 'thing' is tanking through mitigation. The Bounty Hunter 'thing' is armor. So instead of just giving them assault armor mitigation...give them ALL armor mitigations. This will give a nice 'variety' in the appearance of the bounty hunters and make them look more bounty-huntery. Every time I see RIS armor in the game...I always think it would look best on Melee Professions or Bounty Hunters. It fits both bills well. This would also feel more 'star warsy' to me.
In summary....for ranged professions you'd have:
-Pistoleers with Innate Armor or Recon Armor
-Rifleman with Recon
-Carbineers with Battle
-Bounty Hunters with ALL certs

I like it but it would be easier if they made it so that their were different armors with the same stats, everyone wears the same few kinds of armor because they are the best! What if Chitin, Mabari and Ubese had same stats, then you would see all 3... Last person I saaw wearing Chitin armor that wasnt a newb he was wearing just the helmet and it was one with lots of good AA's in it!

For a gunslinger look, I'd say they should let you wear a duster over your armor. Not really starwarsy but would be very gunslinger sci-fisy, if thats a word.

I'm a AS as well so if it doesn't get changed, oh well!
This is farfetched, but I think it would be fun if it depended on your faction. Imperials usually had armor, so maybe if they use armor it will be a little more effective. Neutrals maybe get an advantage of some type of dodge mod, making them harder to hit (I think of neutrals being smuggler's for jabba and such...which I hope they get into game), and rebels get an innate armor bonus because of how much they believe in their cause (think of how quick Leia bounced back from getting shot!)
This will never happen I know, but yeah...Iess armor and more dodging gunfire will make this game more star-warsy IMO.

If pistoleers got anything other than recon they would get torn apart by rifleman.
