In terms of a Jedi mission, how long from when we accept the mission do we have to complete it?

The question I have is, with all the issues with bugged npc missions, will it stay there for 3 days without getting bugged, assuming it was not bugged in the first place?

During the 3 days, can I investigate my target? Or does the mission stay on the terminal and other BHs can grab it? I'd like to not have to rush into Jedi missions and try to get some info on his behavior before jumping him.
